Job Title: Irrigation Field Manager
Position Summary
The Irrigation Field Manager provides high-level operational leadership and technical expertise for the irrigation department. This role is responsible for the strategic management of field operations, including supervising Senior Technicians and crews, scheduling projects, and ensuring quality assurance. The Field Manager ensures that all irrigation and low-voltage lighting services are delivered profitably, safely, and in accordance with the highest industry standards, while serving as a key liaison between field staff and regional leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership: Manage and coordinate daily field operations for multiple irrigation crews; oversee routing, crew utilization, and labor hour efficiency to meet departmental goals.

Technical Oversight: Serve as the final point of escalation for complex electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting; ensure all repairs, retrofits, and system improvements meet technical and regulatory standards.

Quality & Safety Assurance: Conduct regular site inspections to verify work quality and system performance; enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and the proper use of PPE.

Administrative Management: Review and approve daily BOSS LM entries, material usage, and job notes; ensure all data is submitted accurately and on time to facilitate precise billing and job costing.

Resource Management: Oversee fleet and equipment maintenance for the irrigation department; manage inventory levels and coordinate with vendors to ensure crews have necessary supplies without excessive overhead.

Customer & Internal Relations: Act as a primary contact for customers and contractors; provide professional updates on project status, schedule adjustments, and completion timelines to the production and sales teams.

Equipment Operation: Oversee and, when necessary, operate heavy machinery (trenchers, excavators, skid steers); ensure all operators are trained and certified.

Seasonal Support: Lead irrigation-related winterization programs and manage crews during emergency snow removal operations
Personnel & Talent Development

Recruitment & Onboarding: Partner with the HR team to interview, hire, and orient new technicians and field staff.

Training & Mentorship: Develop and implement technical training programs; lead the participation and mentoring of students within the company’s internship initiatives.

Performance Management: Conduct formal performance reviews for Senior Technicians and staff; provide ongoing coaching and professional development.

Accountability: Document personnel actions, including attendance and disciplinary measures; enforce company policies regarding professional conduct, uniform standards, and work ethic.

Required Skills

- Minimum 2 year college degree preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis
- Ability to bend and stoop on a continual basis
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to work around bees, poison ivy, pollen, thorns and other environmental risks
- Must wear work boots and Bland Landscaping uniforms, present yourself in a clean and professional manner
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision
- Must practice safety at all times
- Must wear company-provided PPE
- Must have valid NC Driver’s license and maintain a good driving record
- Must have NC Pesticide applicators license or the ability to obtain one
- Must pass a criminal background check and maintain a clean criminal record
- Must have good communication skills and ability to motivate others
- Must comply and enforce Bland Landscaping’s policies and procedures
