Overview:

Microspace Communications is seeking a detail-oriented Part-Time Board Operator to support a variety of broadcast operations. This role is responsible for managing religious programming, live event broadcasts, network feeds, and play-by-play content, ensuring high-quality, reliable on-air delivery.

This position may also include part-time shifts within our 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC), providing monitoring and support for satellite and IP-based broadcast systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, monitoring broadcast systems, and responding quickly to technical or programming issues to maintain seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Operate the broadcast console during live talk shows, ensuring smooth andaccurateon-air execution
  • Manage audio levels in real time by adjusting faders andmonitoringoverall sound quality
  • Log key events, highlights, and timing markers during broadcasts, andassistwith seamless transitions between segments or games
  • Coordinate with customers and theMicrospaceNetwork Operations Center (NOC) toestablishand maintain reliable broadcast connections
  • Troubleshoot and support audio codec systems, includingComrex,Tieline, and Telos Z/IP, to ensure consistent signal quality and performance

Required Qualifications:

Core Qualifications

  • Demonstrated reliability with a strong work ethic
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently
  • Prior radio board operation experiencerequired
  • Experience working with studio and broadcast equipment
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of audio signal flow and broadcast chain (studio to IP delivery)
  • Familiarity with audio codecs and IP-based audio transport (e.g.,Comrex,Tieline, Telos, RTP/streaming)
  • Working knowledge of broadcast automation systems and scheduling software
  • Basic understanding of IP networking concepts (IP addressing, connectivity, latency)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly in live environments

Operations & Performance

  • Proven ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, live broadcast environments
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize during simultaneous live events or incidents
  • Strong planning, preparation, and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and escalation protocols
  • Experience working in or willingness to learn a 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) environment

  • Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail in logging, documentation, and incident reporting
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to coordinate across engineering, operations, and customers

Availability & Flexibility

  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness toparticipatein on-call rotations or emergency response situations as needed

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (up to 4–6 hours per shift) at a broadcast console or workstation
  • Manual dexterity tooperatefaders, buttons, rotary knobs, and touchscreen interfaces with precision
  • Near visual acuity tomonitoraudio meters, waveforms, logs, and network status displays
  • Hearing ability sufficient to detect subtle audio anomalies, level imbalances, and signal quality issues
  • Ability to speak clearly and listen actively via headsets, studio monitors, and intercom systems
  • Occasional reaching, twisting, or bending to access equipment or cabling behind racks or consoles
  • Ability tolift upto 25–30 pounds (e.g., codecs, cables, small broadcast gear) whenassistingwith equipment setup or troubleshooting

Work Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a broadcast studio and Network Operations Center (NOC) environment
  • Part-time schedule:approximately 20–24 hours per week, with shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays
  • May berequiredto work during live events, breaking broadcasts, or emergency response situations
  • On-call rotation participation may berequiredas needed
  • Fast-paced, high-pressure environment requiring quick decision-making and multitasking
  • Collaboration with remote customers, NOC personnel, and engineering teams via phone, radio, and digital communication tools
  • Some shift flexibilityrequiredbased on broadcast schedules and operational needs
