Vice President of Fundraising, Alternative Investments

    The Role

    The Vice President of Fundraising, Alternative Investments will be responsible for integrating alternative investment strategies with fundraising efforts, ensuring alignment between donor expectations and investment outcomes. This role requires a deep understanding of alternative investments and strong client-facing skills to effectively communicate with donors and internal teams. This role is designed to ensure that Fidelity Charitable can effectively leverage alternative investments to meet fundraising goals while maintaining strong relationships with donors and ensuring alignment with our Programs and Investment team. This VP role will report to the Head of Fundraising and Distribution and will be an active resource for the Private Donor Group (PDG) and Fundraising teams.

    *Expected Travel is 60% of the time*

    The Expertise and Skills You Bring

    • Investment Strategy Development:

      • Develop and implement alternative investment strategies that align with the organization's goals and donor expectations.

      • Conduct thorough due diligence and manager selection for alternative investments.

    • Fundraising Integration:

      • Collaborate with the fundraising and PDG team to create compelling investment narratives for advisors and donors.

      • Present alternative investment opportunities to donors, highlighting potential benefits and risks.

    • Client Relationship Management:

      • Serve as the primary point of contact for donors, advisors and home office teams regarding alternative investments.

      • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors and advisors, providing regular updates and addressing any concerns.

    • Program/Investment Team Collaboration:

      • Work closely with the Programs and Investment team to ensure investment strategies are effectively implemented and communicated back to advisors and donors.

      • Provide insights based on market trends, macro-economic outcomes and investment performance.

      • Communicate financial due diligence including fee structure, valuation methods and various liquidity terms

      • Partner with Programs and Investments on offering documents, regulatory filings and ensure compliance and alignment of donor’s risk profile.

    • Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

      • Monitor the performance of alternative investments and report on key metrics to donors, advisors and internal stakeholders.

      • Work closely with the Programs and Investment team to ensure investment strategies are adhering to the Investment Policy Guidelines (IPG).

      • Develop tools and systems for tracking and analyzing investment performance.

    • Subject Matter Expertise: Extensive knowledge of alternative investments, including private equity, hedge funds, real assets, and more

    • Client-Facing Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with donors, advisor, home office product managers and internal teams across Fidelity.

    • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex investment data and provide actionable insights.

    • Strategic Thinking: Capability to develop and discuss long-term investment strategies that align with organizational goals.

    • Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively across different teams and departments.

    • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA) are a plus.

    • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in alternative investments, with a track record of successful client engagement and investment strategy development.

    • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with investment analysis tools and software.

    The Fidelity Charitable Fundraising and Distribution team partners with donors, advisors and institutions to help them achieve their philanthropic goals by effectively incorporating charitable giving. The Fundraising and Distribution team is often the first call for all things philanthropic. Fundraisers tend to be the most visible face to both internal and external partners and donors of the organization. As the largest public charity in the nation and an integral provider of philanthropic services and planning, Fidelity Charitable is in the outstanding position to improve the personal philanthropic aspirations of the firm’s donors and the thousands of charitable organizations they are passionate about supporting.
