VP, Architecture

The Role

We build incredible products in the Workplace Investing business at Fidelity Investments to help people plan for financial success. Two major areas in there include our Emerging Businesses (Student Debt Benefits and Small Business 401K) and Advice Products (Managed Accounts, Retirement Income Solutions etc.). In this space we try out new innovative ideas, bring products to market quickly for experimentation and gather feedback to drive roadmaps. We have multiple product teams building to simplify experiences, integrate with enterprise platforms and streamline access to data. We are looking for a Senior Architecture Leader to lead a team of talented architects supporting these product teams. You will provide leadership, coaching and guidance to enable this team to closely partner with product on roadmaps, provide end to end architecture and support implementation.

The Expertise You Have

  • Demonstrable experience in leading technical leaders, especially architects.

  • Demonstrable experience in partnering with business leaders to shape product strategy, roadmap, and implementation approaches.

  • Experience practicing Business Architecture including aligning Business and Technology strategies, Customer Journeys, Capability Modeling and Roadmaps

  • Demonstrable understanding in all aspects of technical architecture (operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization)

  • Collaborating with peer & enterprise architects to align on standards, strategy, and opportunities to refactor business processes, improve customer experience or perform capability rationalization.

  • Ability to work both independently and with different levels of the organization, including technical and non-technical team members.

  • Experience in Modern Architecture and Cloud Technologies to build sophisticated architectures

  • Leadership: Strong management, facilitation, and problem-solving skills are a must; providing technical leadership across the Emerging and Advice domain

  • People Management: Senior level experience managing, leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing people across different geographical locations

  • Communication: Strong storytelling skills that drive program messaging and influence decisions and action. Ability to articulate architecture solutions to Senior Executives and architecture leadership

  • Collaboration: Ability to navigate sophisticated, interpersonal relationships and build partnerships across the firm at all levels

  • Architectural Approach: Active curiosity to conceptualize, design, and construct data and processes; Helping articulate, govern, and evolve the Workplace Platforms strategy aligned with business objectives, goals, and strategy. Extensive experience decomposing relevant business problems into creative, efficient, and scalable solutions

  • Platform Modernization Experience: Hands-on knowledge with modernizing financial platforms, using enterprise patterns and tools to deliver enterprise-scale, secure and highly resilient solutions that will be the building blocks for our business.

  • Influencing Skills: Employs collaborative approach to gain consensus and support for the needs of the work. Understands organizational dynamics and adapts proposals to efficiently navigate constraints

  • Representing WI with vendors, external partners, enterprise technology and other business units.

  • Providing architecture solutions for multiple agile teams. Collaborate with product and engineering leads and senior management on product and delivery requirements, roadmaps, and vision.

The Team

Fidelity Workplace Investing (WI) provides benefits to Fidelity customers, employers, and their employees, in a growing set of areas - Defined Contribution, Equity Compensation, Investment Products & Consulting and Defined Benefits.

As part of the WI Technology Architecture team, you will enable this business transformation by providing strategic direction, transitional and future state architecture and inform the right set of technologies. You will work closely with business partners and technology teams to understand business objectives and help define appropriate architecture direction for them. By working closely with Solution Architects and Agile teams, you will assess and ensure how proposed solutions to specific initiatives align with broader WI goals and strategies.

At Fidelity, our goal is for most people to work flexibly in a way that balances both personal and business needs with time onsite and offsite through what we’re calling “Dynamic Working”. Most associates will have a hybrid schedule with a requirement to work onsite at a Fidelity work location for at least one week, all business days, every four weeks. These requirements are subject to change.
