Job Description:

The Managing Director (MD) is entrusted with a book of business of defined contribution plans comprised of 30 – 40 client relationships that may range $25 – $60M in assets under administration. In this role you will develop positive relationships with institutional clients and build internal working relationships with Fidelity personnel in support of service delivery.

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • We require associates in this role to acquire a Series 7 and 63 within the first 3-6 months of acquiring the position.

  • 5+ years of Relationship Management or Client Service experience; preferably within the Retirement/401K industry.

The Purpose of Your Role

The Managing Director is the primary contact for the client and works in a team structure which is collectively responsible for leading, educating, resolving client issues, establishing relationships and meeting the needs of both Plan Sponsors and Advisors. This role will require ~35% of travel.

  • Verifying client agreement about the issues and options before implementing with solutions. Developing, leading and maintaining strong client relationships, including with the highest level of decision makers.

  • Building positive relationships based on shared dedication to mutual goals. We set the strategic direction for the plan and demonstrates ultimate ownership and accountability for the relationship. Acts as the client’s “trusted advisor” in partnership with the Plan’s Advisor.

  • Partnering with the Plan’s Advisor to understand their specific value proposition to the Plan Sponsor.

  • Planning and conducting effective in-person and/or phone meetings with the Plan Sponsor and Plan’s Advisor client.

  • Making detailed plans and preparations for client meetings in partnership with the Plan’s Advisor.

  • Accurately planning, influencing, and implementing Fidelity solutions to address needs.

  • Differentiating Fidelity's benefits approach against competitive benefit solutions.

  • Facilitating discussions with clients regarding legal, regulatory and design issues across the plan. Consults with clients and their advisors on qualified and potentially nonqualified plan design alternatives.

  • Coordinating internal resources to provide analysis and recommendations to clients on design alternatives.

  • Analyzing investment architecture and providing appropriate alternatives in partnership with the Plan’s Advisor.

  • Identifying key drivers and maintains consistent formal/informal contact with key client decision makers.

  • Actively facilitating Investment Review meetings in partnership with the Plan’s Advisor.

  • Working closely and actively leads discussions with Investment Consulting to build effective investment strategies and develop solutions that benefit clients/Fidelity in partnership with the Plan’s Advisors.

  • Assisting Plan Sponsors with plan corrections, resolving operational defects, PSW navigation, providing plan and participant literature, and contribution inquiries. This includes problem resolution on behalf of clients to produce a satisfactory outcome.

  • Acting as the lead associate for the Book of Business with supporting functions (Client Service Administrator, Testing and Reporting Analyst) providing services through the MD to the client.

  • Developing strong working relationships internally.

How Your Work Impacts the Organization

Focusing on understanding and responding to clients and advisors. In this position you assume a consultative role to acquire a clear understanding of the business needs of relevant issues. You will ensure client satisfaction by seeking feedback and anticipate issues and/or concerns to proactively provide solutions.

The base salary range for this position is $90,000-$204,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
