Position Description:

Directs software and systems design engineering and development for platform development teams. Develops complex software applications and conducts studies of alternatives to translate divisional initiatives into business solutions. Reviews and validates test plans. Manages comprehensive documentation for multiple applications and subsystems. Provides technology solutions to daily issues and estimates technical evaluation requirements for technology initiatives. Draws on in-depth knowledge of the business or function to provide business unit-wide solutions by developing complex, multi-faceted software applications. Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the business unit and participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve business-unit-wide solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the functional level.
  • Participates in high-level, cross-functional architecture design teams.
  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.
  • Directs the development and delivery of major technological initiatives for the business unit.
  • Manages the deployment of major project deliverables.
  • Manages the documentation of major technology applications.
  • Oversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.
  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.
  • Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.
  • Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.
  • Provides guidance, training, and coaching to team members for performance and career development.
  • Identifies and plans for future resource needs.
  • Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and implementing high volume, low latency, RESTful Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) using microservice architecture for the financial service industry.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Software Engineering (or closely related occupation) designing and implementing high volume, low latency, RESTful Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) using microservice architecture for the financial service industry.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) building high volume, low-latency, highly-concurrent, and multi-tenancy cloud-based brokerage and crypto platforms using HTTP based microservices and service-oriented architecture; and integrating platforms with service providers (Equifax CIP, PayPal, Onfido, and Jumio) using secure frameworks (Spire agents, Envoy proxy, and Open Policy Agents) with databases (MongoDB and Elastic) in an Agile environment.
  • DE building containerized Software as a Service (SaaS) based applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS; and developing and deploying microservice based enterprise applications to enable scalability and faster time-to-market for customers using containerized applications, Continuous Integration (CI) and build (Maven, Grunt, Git, and Stash), deploy (Bamboo, Jenkins, and uDeploy), generators (Yeomen and Spring Boot), packaging (NPM, Bower, and JS Tooling), and automation tools (Mocha, Jasmine, Karma, and Junit).
  • DE performing Object Oriented (OO) design and Node.js (Typescript), C++, Java, and J2EE Web application development within UNIX and Windows environments, using design patterns, Secured Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), Apache POI, and Spring framework; and performing multi-threaded and concurrent asynchronous application development, using client-side technologies (HTML5, Typescript, and Angular) and servers (Tomcat and Eclipse IDE).
  • DE designing and implementing distributed applications according to 12-factor principles, using Kubernetes, Confluent, and Kafka; modernizing applications according to DevSecOps and Strangler patterns and tools (API Gateway and Lambda) to develop and deliver secured, distributed event-based Web applications for a consistent and reliable customer experience; and creating data architecture, standards, and performing gap analysis using DB2, IBM MQ, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and Amazon Cloud Object Storage (S3).
