This is a 20 hour/week internship, running from August 19, 2024-December 13, 2024. All 20 hours/week must be completed onsite at WRAL (2619 Western Blvd. Raleigh). This internship is a part of the Emerging Leaders Program, a partnership between Capitol Broadcasting Company and Leadership Triangle.

Job Description:

The WRAL multiplatform News Intern will have the opportunity to pitch, produce and assist with content for our television, web and social media platforms. They will also learn about brand “voice” and how news employees represent themselves – to other professionals and to the public. After a rotation with supervisors across disciplines, each intern will have the opportunity to choose their own focus, based on interests or strengths. At the end of the internship, each participant will have completed a multiplatform project to include on a resume.

Requirements:

  • Strong writing skills, including discernment around how writing differs by platform and audience.
  • Photography and videography experience – even smartphone based – and willing to learn to produce visuals for various platforms.
  • Comfort speaking up in editorial planning meetings and in one-on-one sessions.
  • Personal vehicle to drive to/from the office and to produce the news.

Successful interns will:

Be great at time management and communication. Bring curiosity and a willingness to learn. Interns with schedule flexibility will thrive, as internship work will include early, late and weekend hours.

The Emerging Leaders Program:

The Emerging Leaders Program is open to rising Juniors and Seniors at North Carolina Central

University and Shaw University. There are multiple internships at Capitol Broadcasting Company offered through the Emerging Leaders Program; please only apply to one internship.

As a part of this internship, you will complete 50 hours of leadership training with Leadership

Triangle. Your hours with Leadership Triangle are a paid component of the program and all sessions are mandatory. As an Emerging Leader, you will be paired with a leadership mentor who will support you in three 1:1 sessions. You will be introduced to leaders throughout the Triangle community and have opportunities to network and grow your professional community. All students who successfully complete the Emerging Leaders Program will be admitted into the lifelong Goodmon Fellowship.

Additionally, you will take part in a mandatory cohort-only retreat in Rocky Mount, NC. The retreat is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 - Sunday, October 13. Leadership Triangle has arranged lodging. Meals will be provided. Emerging Leaders are expected to arrange their own transportation.

Emerging Leaders will be paid $16/hr. Additionally, each intern will receive $80/month as a transportation stipend. If you do not have your own car, you will likely spend more on transportation than is covered by the stipend. Leadership Triangle will administer all payments. This is a cohort based program, designed to promote networking across local HBCUs.

The application deadline is May 31. Interns will be notified of an application decision during the week of June 10th.
