This is an up to 20 hour/week internship, running from August 25, 2025-December 12, 2025. This internship is located in Durham, NC (409 Blackwell St, Durham, NC 27701) and you must complete all hours onsite. This internship is a part of the Emerging Leaders Program, a partnership between Capitol Broadcasting Company and Leadership Triangle.
Job Description:
Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. (‘CBC’) is looking for an enthusiastic and driven Events intern to assist the Durham Bulls Baseball Club with administrative and events-related tasks. This role involves supporting the marketing, sales, and operations of special events at both the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP) and the Durham Athletic Park (DAP). This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Events.
Responsibilities:
Event Planning & Execution - Support the planning, setup, and breakdown of events, including:
- Participating in client walkthroughs and site tours
- Collaborating with the events team and other departments on event concepts and logistics
- Entering and managing event details in Tripleseat
- Designing layouts using Prismm
- Assisting with physical setup and teardown of event spaces
On-Site Event Support - Provide on-the-ground support during events by:
- Greeting and directing guests upon arrival
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues in real time
- Overseeing a designated functional area during events
- Acting as a runner and general resource for staff and vendors
- Ensuring high-quality customer service for all guests, clients, and partners
Research & Strategic Support - Conduct research to inform and grow the events program, including:
- Identifying potential new clients or event partners
- Researching competitor events and market trends
- Monitoring relevant public events for inspiration and collaboration opportunities
Holiday Lights Show Support - Assist in project management for the Holiday Lights Show by:
- Researching functional areas and potential enhancements
- Helping coordinate setup and operations of key show components
Innovation & Concept Development - Contribute to the ideation and development of new event concepts aimed at increasing revenue and community engagement.
Customer Service Excellence - Deliver consistently exceptional service across all interactions, upholding the organization’s standards of professionalism and hospitality.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in event coordination or management
- Strong teamwork skills and a collaborative mindset
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable working in loud, high-traffic environments and varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
- Ability to occasionally lift boxes weighing between 5 and 25 pounds
Preferred Majors:
Event Planning, Hospitality, or a related field
The Emerging Leaders Program:
The Emerging Leaders Program is open to rising Juniors and Seniors at North Carolina Central University and Shaw University. There are multiple internships at Capitol Broadcasting Company offered through the Emerging Leaders Program; please only apply to one internship.
As a part of this internship, you will complete 40 hours of leadership training with Leadership Triangle. Your hours with Leadership Triangle are a paid component of the program and all sessions are mandatory. You will be introduced to leaders throughout the Triangle community and have opportunities to network and grow your professional community. All students who successfully complete the Emerging Leaders Program will be admitted into the lifelong Goodmon Fellowship.
Additionally, you will take part in a mandatory cohort-only retreat in Rocky Mount, NC. The retreat is scheduled for Saturday, November 1st - Sunday, November 2nd. Leadership Triangle has arranged lodging. Meals will be provided. Emerging Leaders are expected to arrange their own transportation.
Emerging Leaders will be paid $16/hr. Additionally, each intern will receive $80/month as a transportation stipend. If you do not have your own car, you will likely spend more on transportation than is covered by the stipend. Leadership Triangle will administer all payments. This is a cohort based program, designed to promote networking across local HBCUs.
