This is a 15 hour/week internship, running from August 24, 2026–December 11, 2026. All internship hours must be completed in-office in Raleigh (2619 Western Blvd. Raleigh, NC 27606). A personal vehicle is required. This internship is a part of the Emerging Leaders Program, a partnership between Capitol Broadcasting Company and Leadership Triangle.

Job Description

The Community & Special Events Intern will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of station-led community events and outreach initiatives. This role supports efforts that connect the television station with local audiences, nonprofit partners, and sponsors through meaningful in-person and promotional experiences. The intern will gain hands-on experience in event logistics, community engagement, and media-driven activations.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with planning and coordinating community events, station activations, and promotional appearances

  • Support event logistics including scheduling, vendor coordination, materials preparation, and on-site setup

  • Help manage event materials such as signage, promotional items, and community information

  • Assist with on-site event execution including guest engagement, booth management, and audience interaction

  • Help capture photos, notes, and written promotional content and recaps from events for internal reporting or digital promotion

  • Provide administrative support including research, scheduling, and documentation for upcoming initiatives

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, provided they are reasonably related to the responsibilities outlined in this job description

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

  • Interest in event planning, community engagement, media promotions, or nonprofit partnerships

  • Comfortable interacting with the public at community events

  • Ability to occasionally work evenings or weekends during events

  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms and promotional marketing is a plus

A Note from the Manager

A successful intern will be proactive, organized, and enthusiastic about engaging with the community. The role often involves balancing multiple projects and adapting to the fast-paced nature of events, so flexibility and a willingness to jump in wherever needed are important. Interns should know that collaboration, clear communication, and a positive attitude are highly valued — we strive to create a supportive environment where you can ask questions, contribute ideas, and gain meaningful real-world experience.

The Emerging Leaders Program:

The Emerging Leaders Program is open to rising Juniors and Seniors at North Carolina Central  University and Shaw University. There are multiple internships at Capitol Broadcasting Company offered through the Emerging Leaders Program; please only apply to one internship.

As a part of this internship, you will complete 40 hours of leadership training with Leadership Triangle. Your hours with Leadership Triangle are a paid component of the program and all sessions are mandatory. You will be introduced to leaders throughout the Triangle community and have opportunities to network and grow your professional community. All students who successfully complete the Emerging Leaders Program will be admitted into the lifelong Goodmon Fellowship.

Additionally, you will take part in a mandatory cohort-only retreat in Rocky Mount, NC. The retreat is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 - Sunday, September 27. Leadership Triangle has arranged lodging. Meals will be provided. Emerging Leaders are expected to arrange their own transportation. 

Emerging Leaders will be paid $16/hr. Additionally, each intern will receive $80/month as a transportation stipend. If you do not have your own car, you will likely spend more on transportation than is covered by the stipend. Leadership Triangle will administer all payments. This is a cohort based program, designed to promote networking across local HBCUs.

The application deadline is May 31. Interns will be notified of an application decision by June 26th.
