Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Central University’s Information Technology Services (ITS) provides information technology services to schools and departments, administrators, staff, students and the growing population of on-line and distance education students. The objectives of ITS is to Improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the administrators, faculty and staff at NCCU through the use of technology, enhance the teaching, learning and research process through the use of technology and to provide adequate support of the technology that is deployed.
Primary Purpose of Position
The position is responsible for providing project management coordination and support for IT infrastructure projects and for supporting the network and communications networks of the campus. Work will include collaborating with campus partners, ITS members and vendors.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to demonstrate functional understanding of networking components and provide troubleshooting through OSI Layers 1 – 3
Ability to make recommendations for changes to approved NCCU infrastructure standards
Ability to maintain relationships with vendors and ensure that all work performed is in accordance with scope of work documents.


Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others in a team environment.
Incumbent should possess critical thinking skills and must be able to function in high-pressure situations.
Incumbent should provide levels of guidance and consulting in maintaining documented standards for the information technology structured cabling infrastructure.
Incumbent must have knowledge of troubleshooting physical connectivity problems.
Incumbent must have a working knowledge of deploying ethernet, fiber, and copper cabling.
Working knowledge of Cisco switching
Must understand the operations of Cisco VOIP solution with the ability to learn
Ability to create Visio network diagrams
Minimum Education/Experience
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline and 1 year of experience in the Information Technology related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Provide project management and coordination support between ITS, capital projects, and facilities departments as it relates to infrastructure additions and/or modifications. Attends bi-weekly meetings between ITS and capital projects and serves as designee on any facilities planning teams. Works independently with Capital Projects Office and substantively contributes to projects (planning, implementation and completion) without supervision. Often serves as infrastructure lead for ITS on such projects. Provide active and consistent communication with the stakeholders and team members until the projects are completed
Function Information Technology
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

Function Information Technology
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Serve as backup for administration of the University’s complement of voice communications systems, including life/safety lines (emergency call boxes, fire alarms, elevator lines, etc), VoIP lines and voice-based services such as voicemail and unified communications. This position serves as a backup to the technical expert in voice communications.
