Primary Function of Organizational Unit
T | The Department of Chemistry is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS) as such, it provides undergraduate/graduate instructions in all fields of Chemistry (Analytical. Biochemistry, Inorganic, Physical). The Department is one out of three Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in North Carolina that is currently approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The Department directly supports approximately 80 majors, both graduate (15) and undergraduate (65) and provides service courses to the Department of Biology, Environmental Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Health Education, and Human Sciences. The Department has developed a Student ACS and National Organizational for Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChe) Chapters for community outreach activities.
Primary Purpose of Position
This 9-month tenure-track faculty will be recruited to teach primarily in areas related to Inorganic Chemistry (such as but not limited to organometallic chemistry, bioorganometallic chemistry, materials science, or computational inorganic chemistry). The candidate will report to the department chair and will work closely with other Inorganic Chemistry instructors in the department. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and advanced courses in inorganic chemistry, general chemistry, and electives in the candidate’s area of specialization. The candidate will seek external grants and develop a competitive research program. Additional responsibilities include teaching inorganic chemistry courses at the graduate level. Conducting research in the related areas, involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, academic advising and program development, and institutional and/or community service.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent research and analytical skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others; strong knowledge base in Inorganic Chemistry and related areas.
Minimum Education/Experience
Earned Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry or related field, and postdoctoral experience in research or teaching in Inorganic Chemistry (such as but not limited to organometallic chemistry, bioorganometallic chemistry, materials science, or computational inorganic chemistry). Assistant Professor or Associate depending on experience.
