Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Nursing emerges from the challenge to meet the manpower needs for quality health care locally, nationally and globally. The Department of Nursing provides essential service to improve the quality of life for all people through quality educational programs research and scholarly endeavors, and community service.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Simulation Lab Coordinator position will teach nursing courses and develop instructional material related to area assigned. The Simulation Lab Coordinator will evaluate student clinical performance according to established criteria and course objectives. The Simulation Lab Coordinator will plan, coordinate, and facilitate simulation experiences for students throughout the nursing program. The Simulation Lab Coordinator will collaborate with faculty to ensure safe, effective simulation activities. In addition, the Simulation Lab Coordinator will perform related duties such as advising students on academic curricula, formal and informal instruction, counseling students, original work or research, preparation of new courses, and serve on various campus and community committees.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Commitment to diversity and inclusion in fulfillment of the university’s mission; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent analytical skills and reasoned judgment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others; candidate must have a minimum of two years of direct client care experience in the clinical setting. Teaching experience preferred.
Minimum Education/Experience
The Simulation Lab Coordinator position requires a Master of Science in Nursing and valid NCBON license.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
The Simulation Lab Coordinator position requires an unrestricted North Carolina RN license. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) preferred, if not CHSE expected to achieve within the first two years of employment.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Evaluate, monitor and mentor student academic progress; Assess, review and evaluate student activities and progress; maintain all simulation equipment, inventory of supplies utilizing appropriate software applications and programming simulations; evaluate the effectiveness of simulations as educational and assessment tools; provide oversight to simulation technician; create and facilitate simulation scenarios and student participation with debriefing sessions according to International Association Simulation Clinical Learning (INASCL) simulation standards of best practice; train users in simulation activities, operation of patient simulators, audio-visual equipment, and maintenance; collaborate with course faculty to maintain and update course curricula, including simulation scenarios and training; conduct student evaluations and advising related to simulation lab; assist with the clinical student remediation process using simulation. Serve and support functional activities of departmental committees; Participate in departmental and college activities.

Prepare scholarly publications, attend academic conferences and obtain grants. Use research and literature findings to integrate best practices into the simulation lab instructional environment.
