Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute (BBRI) is a 40,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art research facility that is dedicated to expanding the University’s research capacity, particularly in the biomedical and biotechnology areas. The BBRI is a broad based multi-disciplinary research and training institute. The mission of the BBRI is to conduct multidisciplinary and inter-institutional research focused on health issues that disproportionately affect minority and underserved groups while providing students with research experiences that will enhance their access to careers in the biomedical sciences. |

Primary Purpose of Position | We are seeking a dynamic, team-oriented, and motivated individual with proactive problem-solving skills to support the efforts of the RCMI Community Engagement Core. The goal of the Community Engagement Core is to reduce health disparities in surrounding NC communities through community-academic partnerships that provide advice on the development and application of basic, behavioral and clinical/health services research aimed at mitigating disparities. To achieve this goal the following specific aims have been identified:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | The Research Assistant is a Graduate level, full-time position that will be responsible for coordinating a major research study funded by the National Institutes of Health, focused on health disparities. The Research Assistant will play a project manager role, supporting this transformative work to further understand the social, behavioral, environmental, and biological causes of health disparities by implementing research activities as described in funded grant applications; collaborating with NCCU faculty, staff, and students on project design and assessment; working with community partners in Durham and rural North Carolina Counties; recruiting and scheduling study participants; conducting research sessions; coordinating working with the project budget; and working closely with the leadership team and investigators. This is a time-limited contract position. |
