Primary Purpose of Position | The Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator position will teach nursing courses and develop instructional material related to area assigned. The Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator will evaluate student clinical performance according to established criteria and course objectives. The Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator will perform related duties such as advising students on academic curricula, formal and informal instruction, counseling students, original work or research, preparation of new courses, and serve on various campus and community committees. In addition, the Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator will manage the day-to-day activities of the nursing skills laboratory, including but not limited to teaching and supervising students in guided skills practice, demonstration, skills evaluation, and remediation, maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment; and ensuring ongoing compliance with the accrediting body standards of safety rules and regulations. The Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator will report directly to the Director of the Experiential and Remediation Learning. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Commitment to diversity and inclusion in fulfillment of the university’s mission; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent analytical skills and reasoned judgment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others; candidate must have a minimum of two years of direct client care in clinical setting; three years of teaching experience is desired. |
Minimum Education/Experience | The Lecturer/ Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator position requires a Master’s of Science in Nursing. |
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation | Clinical Skills Lab Coordinator position requires an unrestricted North Carolina RN license. |

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. | Evaluate, monitor and mentor student academic progress. Assess, review and evaluate student activities and progress. Create a learning environment that enhances the students’ ability t use conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills. Create and maintain skills lab schedules, perform routine skills lab equipment maintenance, create routine supply/equipment order requisitions; provide resources in the skills lab for the mastery of psychomotor and clinical reasoning skills; assist in the developing formal lab skills assessments to meet course outcomes; provide feedback and evaluate student skills assessments in coordination with course faculty; serve as a resource mentor for clinical skills remediation of faculty identified high-risk students; maintain and report quarterly records of student attendance and skill performance in the clinical skills lab setting; provide supervision for clinical skills lab technician. Serve and support functional activities of departmental committees. Participate in departmental and college activities. |
