Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Extended Studies is a unit within the Academic Affairs division and is responsible for the administrative oversight of the distance and online education initiatives at NCCU. Extended Studies provides support and resources to faculty for the development, delivery, and assessment of online courses and programs.
Primary Purpose of Position
North Carolina Central University is committed to reaching a diverse student population with a variety of online courses and programs. At NCCU, e-learning is a rapidly growing option in teaching-and-learning. With educational technologies constantly changing, there is a need to have intentional planning, training and development of faculty moving from the traditional face-to-face environment to an online environment. This position will be responsible for assisting faculty online course design and technology integration.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in collaborating with faculty to develop and implement learning outcomes and use analytical tools to identify the pedagogical needs of courses; Experience designing, implementing, and conducting faculty development programs; Ability to develop project timelines; Experience with the Canvas Learning Management platform; Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social media, mobile devices, AI, learning analytics); Experience with assessment, evaluation, and educational research methodologies (preferably Quality Matters); Experience in higher education curriculum design; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications and web page editors, graphic software, and basic HTML.
Minimum Education/Experience
Masters degree in instructional design, instructional technology, or related field; Ph.D. or Ed.D preferred. At least three years of instructional design and development work experience (preferably in higher education).

Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Support faculty in the design and development of instructional content for online delivery. This position will provide guidance on best practices, methodologies, strategies, and policies related to delivering effective online instruction.

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Utilize the Quality Matters Rubric for Higher Education to assess online courses and programs. This position will be responsible for ensuring online courses and programs meet the standards outlined in the QM Rubric, prior to the course being offered through NCCU Online.
Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Facilitate group training and workshops, as well as individual consultations for faculty designing, developing, and delivering online courses. Training will focus on key areas to ensure effective, quality online instruction, such as but not limited to: universal design, ADA accessibility standards, authentically assessing students, engaging online students, resources and strategies for curating online instructional materials
