Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The missions of BRITE are applied research and workforce development. Its research focuses are drug discovery and health-related research in areas such as neuroscience, cancer, antimicrobials, cardiometabolic disease, infectious diseases, lung disease, and plant genetic engineering. Through the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, BRITE offers programs at the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. levels and provides students with scientific competency and laboratory experience to work in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, or to fully prepare them to pursue advanced studies.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position entails scientific, technical, and analytical work in the BRITE Program. The primary purpose of this position is to provide scientific data analysis, programming and systems applications design and analysis, project management, and technical support to BRITE. In addition, this position will (1) assist in the teaching mission of The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences & BRITE institute (2) develop an independent research program within the realm of the BRITE core missions, ultimately leading to extramural funding and (3) serve on appropriate committees at the department, college and university levels.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Apply scientific instrumentation related to biotechnology and biomanufacturing such as fermenters, bioreactors, chromatographic systems, homogenizers, filtration systems and high-speed centrifuges. Experience with cell dispensers, liquid handling stations (robotics), HPLC, FPLC, and fluorescence plate readers is a plus.

• Perform laboratory techniques in: fermentation (development and execution as well as the accompanying competencies in different formation processes including fed-batch),, cell-based assays (including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence), biochemistry, and cell culture.


Minimum Education/Experience
Doctorate (Ph.D. ,DSc., PharmD.) with a minimum of 2-3 years of active research experience.

Function Research

Develop an extramurally funded research program within the framework of the BRITE Institute’s core missions in discovery and translational research. The candidate is expected to participate in conferences and workshops, as well as collaborate with external research partners
Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Teach courses in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Program related to Bioprocessing and Biomanufacturing, special topics, and develop new courses as needed to support the mission of the department and BRITE institute to train the next generation workforce for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The candidate will contribute to mentoring activities, which include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and participation in supervising students research projects.

Provide exceptional service to NC Central University at the department, college and university level. This includes service by participating in appropriate committees.
