Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The department provides support, guidance, programming, and advocacy for students by addressing how social, natural, and built campus environments affect students’ health and well-being.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Student Engagement Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of the Affinity Center. This includes but is not limited to programming, event support and assisting the Director of Student Development and Support.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with wellness education, student retention, student leadership and student development theory.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in workshop facilitation, event planning, multi-tasking and prioritizing in a busy environment.
  • Experience with college students in a university setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once with attention to detail and timely completion of projects.
  • Ability to work consistently outside of regular business hours in the evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to protect confidential information, use critical thinking skills and exercise tact and diplomacy when handling sensitive information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and with critical thinking skills.
  • Budgeting skills to develop and implement programs within the budget.
  • Collect data, assessment and create reports.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2-3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with college students in a university setting.
  • Professional experience working with historically marginalized students.
  • Experience with event programming and workshop facilitation.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Operations Management
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
· Manage the day-to-day operations of the Affinity Center, including student staffing and scheduling.
· Plan and execute signature programs for the Affinity Center.
· Manage the Eagle Link web page for the Affinity Center.
Other Duties as assigned.


Function Program Administration
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
· Develop and implement programs and services that foster students’ strong sense of self, strengthen their communities, and build connections to campus resources.
· Collaborate with campus partners and resources to establish student learning, development, and success benchmarks.

Facilitate events coordinated by the Department of Student Development and Support or other NCCU Departments, and facilitate staffing meetings for volunteers, student employees, interns, and student leaders.


Function Consulting/Advising
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
· Assist in leadership development and guide student leaders, student employees, interns, and volunteers to assist in programming and events. The coordinator will engage students in structured opportunities for reflection, understanding, and respecting feelings, values, and attitudes and aid students in learning to manage in constructive ways.
· Advise and co-advise student organizations structured to balance and achieve programmatic and student learning outcomes, the coordinator helps students prepare for their careers and meaningful contributions to society by expanding knowledge and skills while discovering the potential with others.

The coordinator will facilitate programming on student wellness, civic engagement, and success and retention.
Function Communication and Teamwork

· Assist in leadership development and guide student leaders, student employees, interns, and volunteers to assist in programming and events. The coordinator will engage students in structured opportunities for reflection, understanding, and respecting feelings, values, and attitudes and aid students in learning to manage in constructive ways.
