Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The James E. Shepard Memorial Library serves as the main academic support unit to provide library and information services to our students, faculty, staff, community and distance education patrons. |
Primary Purpose of Position | The Electronic Resources Librarian manages the Library’s electronic resources and ensures optimal and accurate access to subscription resources, including databases, electronic journals, and e-books. The Electronic Resources Librarian supports the development and assessment of new methods of subscription and resources acquisition and strives to increase available resources for the North Carolina Central University community. Supports the development and integration of library systems and technologies. Responsibilities of the position evolves as the library environment continues to change. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Knowledge of integrated library systems Strong commitment to customer service excellence Knowledge of current issues in acquiring, licensing, and managing access to electronic access to electronic resources. Good technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Strong analytical and problem solving skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong ability to work with internal and external constituents and organizations |
Minimum Education/Experience | Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited program. Knowledge of trends and practices in electronic resource management,. Minimum of two years of related job experience. |

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. | Manages the Library’s electronic resources, discovery platforms, electronic books, journals, videos and databases. Maintains Library’s electronic subscriptions; and ensures timely renewal of all products. Negotiates the licenses agreement with library vendors, recommends terms and agreement language, maintains documentation of license agreements, renewal schedules and vendor sales contract of electronic resources. Processing invoices in a timely manner. Resolving problems relating to e-resources access in a timely manner. Providing information, training, and support to inform colleagues and the campus of new features and interface changes to e-resources discovery. Assist with the administration of the library’s Intergrated library system. |
