Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The NCCU School of Education offers undergraduate, graduate, licensure and professional development programs to train students to become teachers, principals, counselors, as well as serve as mentors to community schools. The School offers traditional, classroom-based instruction as well as synchronous and asynchronous online/web-based instruction. Faculty and staff offer diverse knowledge and experience, providing students with a unique learning experience using the latest technology; small class sizes provide easier access to peers and instructors. The primary goal of the School of Education is to prepare educators for Diverse Cultural Contexts in the 21st Century.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Brenda B. Brodie Endowed Chair in Teacher Education at North Carolina Central University is intended to honor the late Dr. Ronald Edmunds (1935-1983) who is considered the father of the effective schools movement. Quoted widely throughout the nation is Dr. Edmund’s challenge to us all… “We can, whenever and wherever we choose, successfully teach all children whose schooling is of interest to us. We already know more than we need to do that. Whether or not we do it must finally depend on how we feel about the fact we haven’t so far.”
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Candidate should have a proven track record of teaching evidence-based classroom/instructional/school improvement practices within a teacher education or P12 setting; and who can demonstrate the articulation of effective instructional practice.
Candidates should have an established record of securing external funding and must have an extensive record of research productivity in school improvement and evidence-based instructional practices.
Minimum Education/Experience
The candidate must have an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Educational Evaluation/Policy, Special Education, or a closely related field from an accredited university and the ability to hold a faculty rank of tenured Full Professor.

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Instructional responsibilities include a reduced course load [e.g., course release(s)] consisting of undergraduate and/or graduate education courses and/or internship supervision. The endowed professor will serve as a model for effective, high-quality evidence-based classroom/instructional/school practice. Auxiliary teaching responsibilities include advisement, curriculum updates and revisions, and support for accreditation efforts.
Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Service includes outreach as a classroom/school improvement champion and facilitator of professional development and seminars for and/or in collaboration with teacher education programs and partners such as regional school systems and state organizations. There may be additional opportunities to serve on state-level school improvement efforts and/or other related initiatives.

Serve as a mentor to junior faculty. Share effective evidence-based classroom/school improvement practices for teacher candidates at NCCU. Collaborate with faculty on unique teacher candidate early field experiences.
Function Research
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Research in classroom/instructional/school improvement practices with the goal of advancing evidence-based knowledge and practices. Articulate the importance and integration of current classroom/school improvement research. Research efforts should lead to publication in peer reviewed journals and dissemination at state, national, and/or international conferences. Procurement of grant funding that supports the mission of the School of Education.
