Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Student Engagement and Leadership is the central department at the institution that is tasked with creating opportunity for students in developing critical leadership skills, through the implementation of programs such as Student Government Association, Student Activities Board, fraternities and sororities and the Royal Court.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to keep the A. E. Student Union in a clean and orderly condition during the evening shift; perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, waxing, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish; duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, setting-up and preparing meeting rooms for special events and other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of cleaning practices; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and their purpose in addition to how they are used in housekeeping; knowledge of buffers, carpet extractors, floor scrubbers and wet vac.; ability to perform heavy to medium physical work; ability to left up to 50 pounds; ability to multi-task in addition to bending and stooping frequently; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
Minimum Education/Experience
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Required Competency Knowledge - Program/Technical
Duties
Cleaning Duties such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting and vacuuming of the student union.
Required Competency Interpersonal Skills
Duties
Working with other student union staff members, student workers, and customers to satisfy the cleanliness and space reservation requests of the building.
Required Competency Customer Service/Communication
Duties
Provide internal and external customers with required levels of service and on-time communication to immediate supervisors for matters concerning the building and reservations.
Required Competency Safety and Health Compliance
Duties
Understand the Material Safety Data Sheet as it relates to all chemicals in the building, practice safety measures with various procedures throughout the course of the day, and remain current with university policies and procedures.
Required Competency Knowledge - Technical
Duties
Understanding of furniture and technology as it relates to reservations for internal and external customers. Setting up tables, chairs, computing and projector equipment in the various spaces of the building as per customer requests.
