Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The mission of SLIS is to prepare students in our accredited graduate degree programs to have the leadership, creativity, and technical skills to use the principles of information science, library science, data science, and computing to ethically, inclusively, and humanistically address critical challenges in our society.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Lecturer position will teach graduate courses in SLIS; advise students; evaluate and grade students’ assignments in a timely manner, and offer appropriate and timely feedback to better gauge students’ progress; follow university timelines and procedures related to grading and submission of early warnings, mid-term and final examination grades; participate in normal functioning of the School of Library and Information Sciences, and the University including attending and participating in departmental meetings, and university obligatory activities including recruitment of students. Strong technology training, skills and ability to deliver distance education courses is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate effectiveness in teaching; ability to work with students with minimal complaints; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent analytical skills and reasoned judgment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others; knowledge and ability to deliver instruction via the Canvas Learning Management System or similar systems, and experience with technology-integrated learning environments.
Minimum Education/Experience
MLS and/or Ph.D. in Library and Information Science and equivalent areas
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
The applicant must hold a minimum of a masters degree related to the field of library science and information science from an accredited institution. This includes degrees in education, public policy, public administration, computer science, informatics, humanities and social sciences. If the applicant holds a masters degree, they should also hold significant professional experience in the library and information science and related fields. A Ph.D. in library science or information science or a related field is preferred.
