Primary Function of Organizational Unit | Residential Life is responsible for providing a safe and supportive community for North Carolina Central University students through services, programs, and high-quality facilities focused on student success. |
Primary Purpose of Position | Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Area Coordinator is a live in position that is responsible for residence hall management and programming. This includes but is not limited to graduate and undergraduate staff supervision and recruitment, residence hall operations, customer service, crisis management, student programming. hall opening and closing, health and safety checks, and serving in an on-call duty rotation. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | • Ability to work in a residence hall environment • Knowledge and skill in supervisory practices and techniques • Effective written and oral communication skills • Ability to establish and maintain effective student/staff relationships • Knowledge of counseling, conflict management and crisis intervention strategies • Sound organizational and administrative skills • Familiarity with facilities maintenance and custodial processes • Application and practice of student development approaches |
Minimum Education/Experience | • This position requires a master’s degree in education, college student personnel, counseling or human development, or a related field. |
