Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Office of Budgets and Financial Planning is to develop the university budget based on university strategic goals; maintain, monitor and analyze budget data to advise senior leadership on strategic decisions, provide financial services and financial reports to university personnel and state agencies and assist the university in the proper use of funds (public and private) according to university, state and federal rules and regulations.

Primary Purpose of Position
To provide budget management and analysis to the university in support of the university’s academic and administrative units. To identify, interpret and resolve budget issues for administrators, departments and units throughout the university. This position would manage the budgets for university academic and administrative units.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must posses a working knowledge of Banner Finance or an equivalent system; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Applications, knowledge of office and record management; knowledge of established governmental and department budgeting practices and procedures; knowledge of preparing fiscal reports and analysis of financial documents; ability to supervise and instruct personnel in the implementation of budget procedures and various administrative processes; ability to understand, interpret and apply the laws and regulations governing the maintenance of financial records; ability to independently manage a variety of business functions and various funding sources; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgement and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills; excellent editing skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Budget Management
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Must have a strong budgeting background. Must monitor units to ensure that they are living within their means. Must ensure that budgets are not overspent and that revenues are being realized as expected. Must ensure that budget revisions are processed in a timely manner to ensure appropriate university spending controls.

Function Support the Annual Budget Process
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
This position would support the university’s annual budget process for their units. This position would assist units in developing their budget plan; analyze the divisional financial activity; prepare the associated portions of the All-Funds Budget; and prepare and upload the initial university budgets for their units.

Function Financial Analysis
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Must be able to interpret data and provide sound financial recommendations based on thoughtful analysis of revenue sources and expense projections. Must use forecasting and analysis to assist department leadership in strategic planning. Must design budget reports that are clear, accurate, and lead to better financial decisions.


Function Customer Service
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Must be prepared to assist business officers, department leaders, and support staff with budget mechanics to ensure seamless financial processes. Must respond to phone calls, emails, and other interactions in a timely and respectful manner.
