| Primary Function of Organizational Unit | Facilities Operations reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for the planning, repair, renovation, and maintenance of all NCCU facilities. |
| Primary Purpose of Position | The primary purpose of this position is to perform basic and some skilled plumbing maintenance, repairs and minor projects when requested. Job consists of performing routine maintenance and repair on all campus plumbing and drainage systems. Including but not limited to: bathroom fixtures, faucets, indirect/direct hot water tanks, mixing valves, pressure reducing valves, hot water boiler systems, circulating pumps, water softening systems, building sprinkler systems, Pool management and testing, filters, drinking fountains/bottle fill stations etc. Installing, connect and tests completes drain, waste and vent systems; performs repairs and replacements of various type of plumbing valves; installs basic plumbing fixtures, repairs fixtures, valves and faucets. Provides direct feedback to supervisor on work status of assignments; reviews work for quality and completion; monitors work orders and closes out completed work orders daily. Coordinates utility shut downs; ensures communication and notices are provided to impacted customers and minimizes impact to customers. Obtains and maintains stock inventory of parts, materials and equipment necessary for timely completion of assign work/projects. Completes all paperwork involved with assigned including but not limited to work orders, inventory, vehicle maintenance daily checks, and other review checks as requested. Position will be an on call rotation schedule. This position is considered essential service and required to work during adverse weather, pandemic emergencies, and other emergencies as declared by the Director. Performs other duties as assigned. |
| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems; knowledge of the safety precautions of the plumbing trade; knowledge of using tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in the performance of plumbing work; ability to lift up to 100 lbs. or more; ability to troubleshoot and assess plumbing issues; ability to endure hard physical work which often involves jobs in uncomfortable positions; ability to follow all state rules and regulations while driving; ability to adhere to OSHA rules and regulations; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment. 6 – 10 years of related experience.
