| Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The primary purpose of the University Police Department is to protect the lives, safety, and property, both real and personal, of all students, faculty, staff, visitors, and other individuals who frequent the North Carolina Central University campus. The department is responsible for enforcing all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as University policies, rules, and regulations. The department patrols and secures University buildings, grounds, and facilities; responds to calls for service, complaints, emergencies, and other incidents; and takes appropriate action to prevent, deter, and address criminal activity and safety concerns. The department also documents and maintains reports of incidents and activities in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and University procedures. Through proactive patrol, law enforcement, emergency response, and community engagement, the University Police Department promotes a safe, secure, and orderly environment conducive to the University’s educational, research, and operational mission. |
| Primary Purpose of Position | The primary purpose of this position is to provide security, safety, and customer service support throughout the university campus during assigned shifts. The position monitors university buildings, halls, offices, and parking areas to identify and deter criminal activity, policy violations, safety hazards, fires, vandalism, prowlers, and other unusual or potentially hazardous conditions. The position provides customer service and information to students, employees, visitors, and stranded motorists and responds to incidents involving sick or injured individuals, including providing first aid and transportation when appropriate. The position also supports traffic and criminal enforcement activities, prepares and provides testimony in court and university administrative or student disciplinary proceedings, and assists with maintaining a safe and secure campus environment. Through regular patrols, observation, incident response, and enforcement activities, the position promotes the safety and security of the university community and protects university property. |
