We are seeking a Manager, Commercial Loan Officer to join our team!
The Manager, Commercial Loan Officer will primarily be responsible for providing hands-on training to less-experienced loan officers by originating and closing commercial loans including assessing an applicant, financial analysis, industry and market research, management capacity, and collateral, among other factors, to complete a loan transmittal for underwriting. The Manager-LO is also responsible for training less-experienced loan officers in loan disbursements and construction monitoring, as well as ongoing support of portfolio borrowers. The Manager-LO is responsible for training less-experience loan officers in the origination of and portfolio support for loans of varying sizes and complexities and for ensuring that all loans conform to Self-Help’s underwriting policies. Critical to this role is the understanding of the value of teamwork and customer relationships as the LO will have direct contact with both internal and external customers and will work closely with business development officers / sector leaders, closers, and underwriters to perform the principal duties and responsibilities of this role. In addition, the Manager-LO is responsible for the direct supervision of several loan officers of various levels.
WHAT You'll DO:
ANALYSIS AND SYNTHESIS
Independently, expertly and efficiently conducts comprehensive industry, financial, and risk assessment analysis.
Quickly and independently identifies key credit issues and consistently makes sound credit recommendations.
Structures loan transactions in compliance with internal credit and program requirements with greater independence.
Independently navigates loan structuring topics, such as third-party guarantees, tax credits, or multiple sources in a capital stack.
Demonstrates critical reading skills and accurate synthesis of information from third-party reports on environmental, market and collateral topics.
Independently and efficiently prepares the full credit memo, which is reviewed by UW, and oral presentation of loan request, clearly and concisely communicating credit drivers.
Independently, prepares and negotiates loan proposals with borrowers and external partners
PROJECT AND PRIORITY MANAGEMENT
Drives all processes with teams involved in loan underwriting, approval, closing, and postclosing. Anticipates needs of loan teammates.
Successfully manages several (~4-6) active loans (~2 in origination, ~2 in disbursement, ~2 in portfolio needing attention) at one time with much of loan work in collaboration with or providing training to LO1s and LO2s.
Consistently establishes reasonable deadlines and follows through to meet them; communicates promptly and proactively to teammates. Manages many competing priorities.
Expertly manages large portfolio of closed loans, including construction disbursements, modifications, servicing, and other portfolio needs.
Understands and consistently manages to the timing and needs of valuation, environmental, construction, legal, and servicing processes and teammates.
Successfully influences processes and outcomes over which don't have control

Leads origination work on > 10 loans or $8M in total loan value or equivalent proportionate share of loan originations with most in collaboration with and providing training to LO1s and LO2s per year.
Expert in one or two sectors / geographic locations and proficient in others. Capacity to originate loans in sectors / geographies / products that are new to CL team
Expertly works / trains on a high volume of more simply structured loans or expertly works / trains on loans with more complex structures
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
Directly supervises and manages other loan officers.
Regularly serves as lead LO on teams with less experienced LOs/teammates in order to provide hands-on training.
Works with direct reports to set individual goals, track team progress against goals, and provide on-going feedback and coaching
Promotes professional growth of direct reports through planned development activities and experiences. Ensures that professional development and coaching is a priority to all team members.
Works to create and maintain a collaborative, healthy, and productive work environment. Develop teamwork by building consensus and drawing upon the ideas and suggestions of others and fostering a work environment reflecting mutual respect and trust.
Manages the hiring, coaching and assessment of staff performance, providing direct and frequent feedback to staff members, as needed.
WHAT You’ll NEED:
Bachelor’s degree in related field OR equivalent related experience.
6 years of experience in in lending, finance, or community development OR equivalent related experience.
Prior experience in managing a team.
Strong commitment to our mission – creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.
Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration
Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours, as needed.

Compensation:
Competitive nonprofit compensation, based on experience, plus a generous benefits package. Compensation ranges for each position are based on local market rates and will be determined by geography, role, and experience.
