Real Estate Construction Management Intern
We are seeking an Intern to join our Real Estate Team!
Are you interested in supporting a team dedicated to planning, financing, designing, constructing, and managing residential and commercial properties? The Real Estate team’s work focuses on building vibrant, sustainable communities through development and technical assistance services.
At Self Help, we provide a unique perspective to nonprofit real estate development and construction lending that values equitable results for all. As a construction intern, you will interact with experienced team members and stakeholders throughout various stages of construction - from preconstruction to closeout. Sharpen your skills of contract review, documentation, assessment of construction risks, construction lending practices and payment tracking for commercial loans. Gain practical knowledge of design build and design-bid-build for affordable housing and commercial real estate projects.
WHAT You’ll Do:
Assisting Construction Manager on contract negotiations, plans and specification review, pay application approval for various projects including Design Build.
Construction Lending: participate in meetings with loan officers, review qualifications of GC and Architect, track monthly draw disbursements, and assess cost/schedule risks.
Explore research on market trends, construction costs, techniques or other interests important to the intern. Deliver a formal presentation of their project to a broad audience.
Shadow a Real Estate Construction Manager on projects currently in predevelopment and/or construction to gain hands-on experience
Engage with various Real Estate Team sectors (including Community, Development, Leasing, and Property Management) to understand how building projects are conceived and integrated into the built environment.
WHAT You’ll Need:
Undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduates welcome to apply; currently a student in an architectural design program (university accredited program preferred) and/or has a background/significant work experience in such an environment
Demonstrate a sincere interest in non-profit work, education, advocacy, or social work
Excellent interpersonal skills
Proficient written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
An enthusiasm for learning
Strong attention to detail
