ROLE TITLE: Managing Director, Alumni Talent Matching

POSITION REPORTS TO: Vice President, Career Center

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are looking for an experienced executive talent professional to join our enterprise Career Center team. The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about educational excellence, with the ability to bring extensive expertise and experience in developing and providing senior-level talent matching support and a thorough understanding of the national and state labor market landscape in education to identify, cultivate, and match alumni network talent to relevant high-impact/systems-level leadership opportunities across the country.

You will work across our network to facilitate connections between alumni, partners, and employers in fields of impact to TFA’s mission, including (but not limited to) education, social impact leadership, and other high-impact roles in communities where we work. You’ll collaborate with other central and regional teams and external partners, fully leveraging our ecosystem to create an effective and positive experience for alumni, employers, staff, and other stakeholders, and you’ll also work in partnership with regional teams to scale central resources and support high-quality localized talent efforts across our network.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Contribute to the efforts of a 3-person national Senior Talent Matching team to proactively cultivate relationships and connect alumni with executive and systems-level leadership roles in education, social impact, and other high-impact leadership roles in communities where we work.

  • Build relationships with alumni leaders to serve as a trusted advisor and partner on their journey to the most impactful, systems-level leadership opportunities in communities where we work and across the U.S.

  • Consult with regional leaders to align talent matching efforts with local leadership needs; support field teams with data-driven talent insights and talent strategies that drive local impact.

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with employers, executive search firms, and hiring managers to drive targeted placements and expand leadership pipelines.

  • Optimize career technology and data systems, ensuring accurate alumni and employer tracking, talent insights, and measurable placement outcomes.

  • Support training and implementation for field staff, codifying best practices, providing tools, and advising on high-impact regional talent matching efforts.

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

No two weeks will look exactly the same in this adaptive role - but below are examples of how the Managing Director might spend their time:

Reviewing alumni talent profiles to identify those who may be qualified for new career opportunities and reaching out to those alumni to initiate discussion and make connections to hiring managers.

Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to learn about upcoming career opportunities and identify potential alumni matches.

Soliciting updates from across the organization on fellowships and other opportunities for alumni to advance their knowledge, collaborating to give visibility to those opportunities through the Alumni Hub.

Following up with alumni already engaged in application/interview processes and updating data systems with new employment information when applicable.

Partnering with regional teams on existing and new talent matching opportunities and localized initiatives to offer support and visibility through enterprise systems.

Updating data databases with relevant information to track outcomes and talent pipelines.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum of 7 years of direct experience in a college/university career center, talent services, executive search and/or an education sector recruitment and hiring role is required.

  • Evidence of successful career/talent placement outcomes.

  • Experience developing and implementing career programming for senior level audiences that is tailored to helping develop and refine skills needed for career advancement, ideally in the field of education leadership.

  • Extensive experience using, managing, and sustaining an effective digital career/recruitment CRM/CMS platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Symplicity, etc.) is required.

  • Proficient in career content and resource development, program management and presentation/speaking engagements, portfolio of previous resource/content and presentations may be requested.

  • Experience analyzing data and using data visualization tools to demonstrate impact.

  • Experience with strategic planning, project management and outcomes assessment.

  • Proficient with branding/marketing and social media, and experience using Canva and LinkedIn professionally.

BONUS (preferred qualifications)

  • Earned credential in the field of career development/services or human resources that requires demonstration of competency, hours of verified experience and a knowledge/skills assessment (CCSP, CCC, CPCC, CMCS, GCDF, BCC, PHR, SHRM or another related credential).

  • Experience working cross-functionally in a large organization with multiple units, ideally geographically dispersed.

  • Direct experience in a pK-12 role and/or supporting educators with career development.

  • Engagement in career and talent development and/or education professional associations (NACE, NCDA, NEA, etc.).

  • Track record of thought leadership/conference presentations in the career and/or education sector.

WORK DEMANDS

Work is typically conducted from a home office during standard business hours of M-F, 9am - 5pm. However, TFA staff is geographically dispersed, so actual working hours may shift depending on need and meeting schedules. Occasional weekend or evening work hours may be required.

  • Thorough understanding of employment/labor law as it pertains to recruitment and hiring, and understanding of credentialing requirements in the education sector for a variety of roles, including school leaders, is required. ● Exceptional ability to see the “big picture” and understand when projects require high-level vs. detailed thinking and approaches.

  • Exceptional relationship and trust-building skills; Understands the critical role of confidentiality in talent support work.

  • Working knowledge of career coaching/advising theory and practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop career resources and related initiatives.

  • Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills; Makes connections between workstreams and understands how they intersect.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and evolving, emergent strategy; has an entrepreneurial mindset. Unique ability to excel in both strategy and execution.

  • Ability to collaborate with others and manage to outcomes

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary range for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Tier A: $95,200-$122,800

  • Tier B: $103,800-$133,800

  • Tier C: $112,400-$144,800
