ROLE TITLE: Director, National Foundation Partnerships (Full time)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Brittany Doshi, Vice President, National Foundation Partnerships

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, May 27, 2026

LOCATION: Remote within the U.S.; preference for candidates based in the Bay Area or Seattle, with flexibility for local travel.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Director on the National Foundation Partnerships team, you will manage and grow a high-impact portfolio of institutional funders. You’ll serve as the primary relationship and grant manager for multiple partners – owning proposals, reports, compliance, and day-to-day engagement – while collaborating with executive, programmatic, and regional teams to deliver an exceptional funder experience.

Alongside portfolio management, you’ll lead cross-team special projects to strengthen our prospect pipeline and support complex, high-stakes partnership. This role requires strong judgement, sharp writing, and the ability to move quickly in a dynamic fundraising environment.

Reporting to the Head of Foundation Fundraising and Partnerships, you’ll join a virtual team of principal-gifts fundraisers located across the country. This person is ideally based in the Bay Area or Seattle – where TFA has a concentration of current and prospective partners – and can integrate themselves into the local philanthropic community, while staying connected to the national landscape.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT (60%)

  • Independently manage a grants portfolio, including drafting proposals and reports and ensuring grant compliance and implementation

  • Design a robust engagement experience, coordinating relationships across Teach For America and the foundation

  • Meet directly with program officers and foundation staff

  • Provide agile support for the Managing Directors’ portfolio of complex institutional partners, including drafting reports, meeting prep, and due diligence responses

  • Manages opportunity and relationship data in CRM

SPECIAL PROJECTS (40%)

  • Directs prospect pipeline development, including coordinating monthly prospect reviews to review qualified prospects and assign next steps with portfolio managers

  • Sources, researches, and qualifies new prospects (with support from our prospect strategy and research team)

  • Provides additional team operational support as needed

  • Participates in both team and organization initiatives (e.g. corps member selection)

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

A typical week is a dynamic mix of portfolio management, relationship building, and cross-team collaboration.

You may start the week reviewing deadlines across your grants portfolio – finalizing a portfolio, polishing a report, and checking in with program colleagues to ensure deliverables are on track. Mid-week may include meetings with program officers, preparing briefing notes for Managing Directors or the Vice President to meet with a prospective funder, or following up on engagement next steps.

You’ll also contribute to team-wide projects, planning for a monthly prospect review, for example. You’ll research and qualify a handful of prospects and prepare a recommendation to present to the broader National Foundation Partnerships team. Then lean into our project planning system to move forward action items related to donor cultivation.

By the end of the week, you’ve advanced multiple funding opportunities, strengthened key relationships, and showed up as a thoughtful and reliable partner to our institutional partners.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):

  • 4 years of fundraising experience, ideally managing institutional partnerships with a track record of growing a portfolio

  • Excellent written communication for a donor audience, particularly in drafting original grant proposals and reports

  • Capacity to build rapport and trust with internal colleagues across departments and with funders, including in a virtual setting

  • Strong project management skills and comfort navigating complex systems to effectively manage grants

  • Agility and adaptability; the capacity to re-arrange priorities and respond to high-stakes donor requests

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

The National Foundation Partnerships team manages Teach For America’s leading institutional partnerships. We sit within the broader Development team that includes individual and corporate streams and a robust field fundraising operation – together raising over $250M annually.
