Department: Student Involvement
Purpose of Department:
The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) at William Peace University strives to enhance the Pacer experience through the development of the whole student from new student orientation to graduation. Our office supports the mission and values of the institution by providing inclusive experiential learning opportunities through transition initiatives, student organization involvement, programming, leadership development and community engagement. The office is a part of the Division of Student Life. The Division of Student Life oversees the areas of student involvement, diversity & inclusion, athletics, housing & residence life, health services, disability services and counseling services.
Summary of Position:
The Intern for Student Involvement reports to the Director of Student Involvement. This role is responsible for supporting the institution and Office of Student Involvement’s efforts around student organization involvement, student- and staff-run programming, community engagement, campus-wide leadership development, and the overall co-curricular experience for the traditional undergraduate community (TUG). This position is vital in ensuring our students become global citizens, lifelong learners, and part of the Pacer Community.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Position Duties
Programming

● Responsible for the planning, execution, and assessment of various departmental programs ● Plan, execute, and implement other OSI programs as assigned ● Assist with large-scale, traditional campus programs such as Last Day of Classes (LDOC) and Pacer Welcome Week ● Create and advertise all content and marketing materials for OSI events
Registered Student Organizations (RSOs)
● Responsible for the planning, execution and assessment of training for student organization leaders and advisors throughout the year ● Provide coaching to RSO leaders, advisors, and members on issues such as but not limited to event planning, officer transition, conflict resolution, risk management, policy adherence, advisor concerns ● Serve as an approver for RSO marketing requests ● Assist the Assistant Director of Student Involvement with the annual re-registration process for RSOs
Leadership Development
● Support the Pacer Leadership Program (PLP) by updating the curriculum, executing logistics, and assessing the workshop series ● Prepare and plan one-time leadership workshops open to all Traditional Undergraduate Students (TUG) as assigned
Community Engagement (CE)
● Assist with the planning, execution, and assessment of the institution’s various community engagement initiatives, including but not limited to: voter engagement programs, service engagements, and MLK Day of Service ● Serve as a liaison between community partners and WPU students ● Innovate and develop new CE opportunities, programs, and marketing strategies for students
Student Government & Programming Association (SGPA)
● Serve as the secondary advisor to the Student Government & Programming Association (SGPA) Executive Board ● Responsible for attending SGPA meetings, as directed by supervisor and based on capacity ● Assist with SGPA semester retreats ● Collaborate with student leaders on advocacy initiatives and projects
Office of Student Involvement
● Assist with events and programs related to the office, university-sponsored organizations, RSOs, and campus partners, including but not limited to volunteering and assisting with event logistics Other duties as assigned; some nights and weekend work required for large-scale, office-wide and campus-wide events.

Dates of Employment & Hours Worked
August 5, 2024– May 9, 2025 with the opportunity to renew for a 2nd year if both the intern and Office of Student Involvement agree. This position will work 20 hours/week. During peak times, work may exceed 20 hours, but flex time is expected to be taken the following week to compensate for the overage so the intern works no more than 40 hours in a 2-week period.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should have a strong interest in leadership development, community engagement, student organizations, student activities, and event planning.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to an interest in the above areas, preferred qualifications would include hands-on undergraduate involvement or professional experience in the realms of: student activities, event planning, leadership training and development, and community engagement (civic engagement/service). Preferred applicants are currently enrolled full-time in a graduate degree program in higher education, counseling, or a related field. A successful candidate at WPU will also have a desire to help shape campus culture, will have an understanding that programs and initiatives at a large institution will not translate 1:1 with a small liberal arts college, and will want to assist in re-imaging and enhancing campus life at WPU.
