Department: Sciences and Mathematics
Purpose of Department:
The Department of Sciences and Mathematics is dedicated to providing a quality education in order to prepare students for their chosen careers or post-graduate studies. The Sciences and Mathematics Department offers degrees in Biology (BS or BA), Environmental Studies (BA), and Exercise and Sport Science (BS), Sport and Fitness Studies (BA). The department also offers minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Studies, Exercise and Sport Science, and Sport Management.
Summary of Position:
WPU seeks applicants to fill an immediate need for Fall Semester 2025 teaching the following courses in the Exercise and Sports Science discipline. The start date is August 20, 2025.

  • ESS 100: Lifetime Fitness and Wellness, 2 credit hours (Tues/Thurs 8:00-9:45; from 8/20/25-10/10/25)
  • ESS 110: Introduction to Exercise and Sport Science, 2 credit hours (Tues/Thurs 8:00-9:45; from 10/15/25-12/11/25)

Applicants will select which course (or both) that they are interested in teaching as a part of the application process.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
ESS 100: Lifetime Fitness and Wellness
2 credit hours
Lecture material covers a variety of wellness topics including physical fitness, nutrition, weight management, stress management, and disease prevention. The interaction and interdependency of these aspects to total health and well-being is studied and discussed.

ESS 110: Introduction to Exercise and Sport Science
2 credit hours
This course introduces the field of exercise and sport science providing foundational knowledge into various sub-disciplines including, exercise physiology, sports medicine, biomechanics, sport nutrition and psychology, motor learning and more. Additionally, students will explore the required qualifications, responsibilities, salary and more of various careers within the exercise and sport science field.


Minimum Qualifications:
• A Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology or closely related field (including but not limited to Exercise and Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, Physiology, or Rehabilitation Sciences)
Preferred Qualifications:
• A Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or closely related field (including but not limited to Exercise and Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, Physiology, or Rehabilitation Sciences)
• Certification with ACSM, NSCA, or NASM
