Department: Sciences and Mathematics
Purpose of Department:
The Department of Sciences and Mathematics is dedicated to providing a quality education in order to prepare students for their chosen careers or post-graduate studies. The Sciences and Mathematics Department offers degrees in Biology (BS or BA), Environmental Studies (BA), and Exercise and Sport Science (BS), Sport and Fitness Studies (BA). The department also offers minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Studies, Exercise and Sport Science, and Sport Management.
Summary of Position:
William Peace University seeks qualified candidates to teach the following two 4-hour courses in the Exercise & Sport Science discipline for the Spring 2026 semester:

ESS 360: Exercise Testing and Prescription (MWF 10:50-12:05)
ESS 450: Biomechanics (TTH 9:55-11:40)

Instruction will take in-person, on-campus. Please use the supplemental questions included in the application to indicate which of the two (or both) courses you are interested in, qualified for, and are available to teach. This appointment will be from January 14, 2026 to May 12, 2026
Essential duties and responsibilities:
ESS 450: Biomechanics
4 credit hours
Prerequisite: C or better in BIO 380 and BIO 381
Course Schedule: TTH 9:55-11:40
This course applies the principles of anatomy and mechanics to human movement. Students will learn major musculoskeletal prime movers of the trunk, upper and lower extremities. Students will also learn how to apply linear and angular kinematic and kinetic principles to human movement. Students will gain knowledge and experience in performing a biomechanical analysis of movement during an exercise or sport-specific movement.


ESS 360: Exercise Testing and Prescription
4 credit hours
Prerequisites: ESS 100 and ESS 110
Course Schedule: MWF 10:50-12:05
This course introduces principles of exercise testing and prescription based on best practices established by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Students will gain knowledge and skills in performing pre-exercise screening, exercise testing, and exercise prescription for both healthy and special populations. Special populations include children, elderly, pregnant women, and those with metabolic, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, and other health-related conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology or closely related field (including but not limited to Exercise and Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, Physiology, or Rehabilitation Sciences)
Preferred Qualifications:
A Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or closely related field (including but not limited to Exercise and Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, Physiology, or Rehabilitation Sciences)

Certification with ACSM, NSCA, or NASM
