Summary of Position:
The Head Coach, Men’s and Women’s Swimming is responsible for all aspects of planning, managing, and developing a successful intercollegiate sports program in accordance with the standards and goals set by William Peace University. This is a full-time position with a general schedule including the traditional season, non-traditional season, recruiting efforts, and ensuring University compliance with NCAA and USA South Conference requirements and regulations.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the individual holding
this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:


  • Conduct the program abiding by all the NCAA, USA South Athletic Conference, Swim Conference and William Peace University rules and regulations.
  • Recruit quality student-athletes by personal contact, phone and written correspondence with
  • player, coach, and parents.
  • Evaluate the ability of prospects in person or through videotape analysis. Must make frequent off-campus trips to watch games/matches/meets.
  • Arrange on-campus visits for prospective student-athletes with designated athletic administrator and/or the office of admissions. Ensure compliance with NCAA guidelines for contacting and entertaining prospects.
  • Coordinate annually with the Director of Athletics roster goals which are in line with enrollment goals of the University.
  • Monitor the eligibility status and provide support and assistance for the academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Schedule meetings, practices, facility, and vehicle use in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and other University staff.
  • Schedule, plan, and lead practices. Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations on Playing and Practice Seasons.
  • Evaluate team and individual performance. Develop and implement strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at maximum levels as both individuals and a team.
  • Prepare meet plans based on scouting reports and team evaluation.
  • Collaborate with Strength & Conditioning Coaches.
  • Oversee the selection, purchase, fitting and maintenance of team equipment including uniforms and supplies. Submit equipment and budget requests to the Director of Athletics.
  • Ensure the safety of student-athletes and staff through careful monitoring of the condition of equipment and facilities utilized by the designated sport.
  • Oversee the rehabilitation, in conjunction with the athletic trainer, to ensure that injured athletes are capable and ready to return to practice/games.
  • Develop a competitive schedule in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.
  • Coordinate team travel.
  • Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved.
  • Attend Athletic Department staff meetings.
  • Effectively work with a diverse population of students, employees, visitors, and guests.
  • Assist the Athletic Administration in contest scheduling.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise paid and volunteer assistant coaches.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Know and adhere to all applicable NCAA and college regulations that relate to recruiting, daily program management and operation of the individual sport.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of athletic conditioning and team physical training.
  • Ability to positively work with a diverse population of students, families, colleagues, and guests.

  • Required to walk, sit, run, stand, swim, and reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper techniques and form of exercises.
  • Exhibit manual dexterity to operate both office and sport related equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 35 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience in college athletics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • AED, CPR and First Aid certification per NCAA regulations. All registrations are required by the NCAA and USA South Athletic Conference.
