Purpose of Department:
The Center for Student Success is a combination of Academic and Career Advising, Academic Support/Tutorial Services and First Year Experience/Retention and is designed to be a one stop shop for assisting students be successful at PEACE.
Summary of Position:
Reporting to the Dean of Student Success, the Second-Year Experience (SYE) Coordinator supports continued student engagement, persistence, and purpose development for sophomore students at Peace. The SYE Coordinator is a member of the Center for Student Success staff and provides coordination for Second-Year Experience programming, with a focus on belonging, career exploration, leadership development, and the cultivation of essential professional and life skills. This role supports students in defining their academic and career pathways, fostering their connection to the institution, and preparing for third-year success and beyond.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Program Development and Coordination
  • Coordinate and implement a comprehensive Second-Year Experience (SYE) program that supports students’ continued engagement, identity development, and sense of purpose (e.g., workshops, events, and co-curricular initiatives focused on career exploration, leadership, and skill-building). Ensure programming aligns with institutional priorities related to retention, career readiness, and holistic student development.
  • Develop and implement career exploration initiatives that assist students in clarifying academic and career goals (e.g., major exploration programming, career readiness workshops, alumni engagement, and partnerships with Career Services).
  • Create initiatives that help students explore identity, purpose, and values, supporting their transition from exploration to direction in their academic and co-curricular journeys.
  • Develop and coordinate second-year initiatives that promote belonging and successful transition from second year to third year.
  • Develop initiatives that foster success and belonging for first-generation college students, in collaboration with campus partners and student success staff.
Collaboration and Community Building
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student leaders to design and facilitate initiatives that foster a sense of community and belonging among second-year students.
  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive environment that fosters student engagement and connects students to campus resources.
  • Actively engage in outreach efforts to remain visible and accessible to second-year students through programming, communication, and one-on-one support.
  • Support student retention efforts and serve on committees related to student success initiatives as assigned.
Student Support and Outreach
  • Coordinate targeted outreach and follow-up for second-year students who may be experiencing disengagement, lack of direction, or uncertainty regarding academic and career goals, utilizing the university’s retention/alert system.
  • Provide individual support and referrals to campus resources to help students navigate academic decisions, career exploration, and personal development.
  • Teach up to four credits in a professional development course per academic year, as requested.
  • Maintain student records in accordance with FERPA and institutional policies.

Assessment and Reporting
  • Assess the effectiveness of SYE initiatives by tracking participation, engagement, and student learning outcomes related to career readiness, leadership development, and sense of purpose; prepare reports as required.
  • Use data to inform program improvements and identify trends in second-year student engagement and persistence.
Minimum Qualifications:
● Master’s Degree, in Counseling, Education, or related field
● Experience working with undergraduate students in a teaching, advising, or student support capacity.
● Understanding of retention best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience developing or facilitating second-year, career exploration, or leadership development programs.
● Experience collaborating with Career Services or integrating career readiness into programming.
● Experience with retention management or early alert system (such as Starfish).

Hours per week: Full Time (12-Months, On-Site with occassional remote work opportunities)
