Durham Habitat was founded 30 years ago by a group, including Bishop Johnson, who also believed that we're all brothers and sisters, and that all of God's children should have a safe, warm place to call home.

Kramden Institute: Providing Technology Tools and Training to Bridge the Digital Divide. Kramden was founded in 2003 with the goal of getting personal, home computers to deserving students in grades 3-12 in need of one. Since then, thousands of volunteers have helped refurbish and give over 30,000 donated computers to students across 83 of the state’s 100 counties. We cultivate both private and public organizations to donate their used computer equipment to Kramden which we then refurbish and award through our various hardware programs. Currently, we provide approximately 4,000 computers annually to students, adults and other nonprofits in need. In 2013, Kramden revamped its strategy to begin offering digital literacy and tech education programs to members of our communities in order to complement our computer hardware programs. We came to the realization that owning a computer without being able to effectively use one was not actually closing the digital divide. In the time since, thousands of adults and students have gone through our various STEAM programs, learning everything from the basics of operating a computer to programming and designing their own video games. We currently offer digital literacy training across numerous public housing sites in North Carolina ranging from Charlotte, the Triangle, Fayetteville, Wilson and more.

Leadership Triangle is currently recruiting the Fall 2024 Emerging Leaders Cohort. Leadership Triangle is a non-profit organization established in 1992 to build leadership capacity and promote collaboration across the separate communities of the Triangle (Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake Counties.) It does this through leadership development classes, social networking, public forums, and an annual Community Leadership Summit.

When it was established in 1910, North Carolina Central University was the first public liberal arts college for African-American students. Since then, this historically black college (HBCU) has developed a reputation for excellence in academics, research and cultural awareness. North Carolina Central University is an HBCU. North Carolina Central University offers more than 100 programs of study in nearly 30 academic departments. The school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. Some of these programs are unique, such as the master’s degree in Jazz Studies and the bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design. NCCU also has some joint programs for graduate students. NCCU encourages diversity in its student body. Though it was originally intended only for African-American students, the college’s admissions are open to students of all races and ethnicities.
