Job Title: Core Applications Manager

Position Location: Raleigh, NC. Hybrid role. Must live in NC.


Your impact:


As the Core Applications Manager, you'll have the opportunity to use your IT aptitude, management talent, and teaching talent to lead, mentor, and develop your team of core systems analysts and application administrators in providing excellent customer service and system expertise in the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of enterprise systems. You'll create and enhance strong practices for maintaining high availability while also delivering the features, functions, and systems necessary to meet business objectives. You'll also have the opportunity to use your interpersonal skills to develop strong and supportive relationships with customers throughout the organization to better understand their needs from our enterprise systems and assist them in prioritizing and completing solutions to satisfy those needs. In addition, you'll be the primary point of contact for all critical incidents and escalations specific to the core financial system.


The contributions you can anticipate making:


Leadership Skills:


  • Demonstrating leadership qualities to manage cross-functional teams and guide them towards achieving project objectives.
  • Recommending solutions to business needs and assigning staff to the tasks and projects necessary to deliver those solutions
  • Managing and coordinating the implementation of changes, new software releases, and revisions to enterprise core applications
  • Guiding staff in the response to processing errors and developing changes to processing that limit the reoccurrence of such errors
  • Regularly reporting on the status and availability of enterprise systems managed by the team
  • Directly participating in and, when necessary, leading the change management process
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships with vendors and partners
  • Serving as an escalation point for complex issues and/or requests
  • Building a positive culture that inspires your team to do their best
  • Ensuring your staff has the knowledge and tools needed to perform well

Technical Skills:


  • Exhibiting an in-depth knowledge of credit union core banking systems, lending platforms, payment processing systems, and other financial applications.
  • Being proficient in troubleshooting application issues, performing system configurations, and managing application upgrades and patches.
  • Managing, prioritizing, and successfully implementing vendor releases, enhancements, break-fix, project support, and business unit requests to production applications
  • Developing and maintaining sound lifecycle management practices that guide the evaluation, implementation, operation, on-going maintenance, and management of complex software applications used by multiple business units across the organization
  • Having the ability to analyze business processes, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend solutions through the effective use of technology. This includes assisting with the optimizing of current enterprise business applications to take advantage of functionality that currently is not being utilized
  • Familiarity with database systems, programming languages, web technologies, and cloud computing
  • Proving proficiency in managing and integrating various third-party software applications used in Credit Union operations, such as loan origination systems, online banking platforms, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

Business and Analytical Skills:


  • Working collaboratively with business partners to ensure that applications meet their needs and align with their strategic roadmap
  • Supporting the Project Management Office and Process Improvement team by consulting and researching the capabilities of our applications to help with automation opportunities and operational efficiencies
  • Effectively demonstrating organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage competing demands
  • Emphasizing your attention to detail and the ability to ensure accuracy and quality in work deliverables
  • Exhibiting flexibility to adapt to changing business requirements and technology advancements
  • Ensuring the accurate and timely completion of daily processing tasks, services, and data that support Credit Union operations and member service

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:


  • Regularly reporting on the status and availability of enterprise business applications
  • Commanding an excellent communication skillset that allows you to collaborate effectively with Credit Union stakeholders, including executives, department managers, business users, and technical teams
  • Holding strong presentation and documentation skills to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Leveraging your ability to build relationships, negotiate priorities, and influence decision-making processes.

Developing team by:

  • Identifying each of your team member's talents and helping them do more of their best work
  • Holding meaningful weekly check-ins with each team member to build relationship, trust, and provide the opportunity for coaching, feedback, and recognition
  • Conducting stay interviews, performance pulses, and milestone connect meetings regularly
  • Building a culture that embodies Coastal's values
  • Cross-training to ensure optimal coverage
  • Assisting with optimizing of staff and processes
  • Ensuring your staff has the knowledge and tools needed to perform well
  • Successfully recruiting additional staff as needed

Providing exceptional customer service by:


  • Proactively consulting with customers to help them understand how core applications can be used to improve the services they provide

Protecting Coastal by:


  • Working with internal/external auditors as needed
  • Resolving audit and exam findings in a timely manner while minimally impacting production services
  • Ensuring the BCP preparedness of core financial applications and team
  • Safeguarding Coastal by guaranteeing regulatory compliance

Required experience:

  • At least eight years of experience with Symitar
  • Five years' work experience in application management, business analysis, project management, or a related field
  • Three years' experience managing, operating, and troubleshooting systems that perform critical financial transactions
  • At least three years managing vendor and partner relationships
  • At least three years' management, staff development, or large project team leadership experience

Preferred experience:

  • Familiarity with credit union operations, banking systems, and financial services regulations.
  • Experience with Synergy, Synapsys, ServiceNow, Xperience, and/or Opcon

Education:

  • Related college degree, in computer science/technology or business administration, and PMP certification preferred; or equivalent experience.
