Job Title: Communication Specialist

Position Location: Raleigh, NC. Hybrid Position, must live locally.

Job Summary:

The Communication Specialist plans, develops, and manages comprehensive communication initiatives that advance Coastal's mission, vision, values, and brand. This role creates and oversees content according to the established plans for internal, member-facing, and public communication channels. The Specialist provides guidance on messaging approaches, ensures alignment with organizational objectives, and upholds Coastal's cultural drivers, service standards, and brand standards. In partnership with key stakeholders, this position evaluates communication needs, recommends solutions, and leads the execution of high‑impact communication programs that support Coastal's business goals.

As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:

(35%) Communication Content Development & Execution

  • Develop and manage high quality internal and external communications-including intranet content, news releases, blogs, emails, presentations, and other materials-to strengthen Coastal's brand and ensure consistency in messaging across all platforms.
  • Provide writing and editing expertise to Marketing initiatives, internal/external, and public communication including employees, volunteers, members, Select Employee Groups (SEGs), business and nonprofit partners, media outlets, and the broader community to maintain message alignment and maximize audience reach.
  • Strengthen communication efforts by monitoring industry trends, identifying proactive outreach opportunities, and making recommendations to refine communication plans.

(35%) Communication Planning and Reporting

  • Manage enterprise wide communication calendars and effectively prioritize projects to meet established timelines, advance department goals, and optimize organizational impact.
  • Track, analyze, and report communication activities and performance metrics to support data driven improvements and demonstrate organizational outcomes.

(20%) Coordinate communication, provide logistical support, and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure the success of Coastal special events such as the annual meeting, employee events, community impact events, etc.

(10%) Protecting Coastal:

  • Support crisis and rapid response communication by ensuring timely, accurate information flow that protects Coastal's reputation and maintains stakeholder trust during high-risk events.
  • Ensure the business continuity preparedness of the department
  • Ensure Coastal's Crisis Communication Plan is updated and distributed quarterly to align key stakeholders
  • Ensure projects are carried out according to all financial and marketing industry regulations
  • Adhere to planned budgets

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in writing corporate communications and public relations materials
  • Two years of experience in communications, public relations, or related field preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and SharePoint preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, or marketing, or four years of additional experience in lieu of degree
