Job Title: Fraud Investigator

Position Location: Raleigh, NC. Hybrid, must live locally.

Job Summary:

The Fraud Investigator supports Coastal's fraud program which focuses on detecting, deterring, recovering, and mitigating suspected or reported fraudulent activity occurring through our various channels and products. This role researches, identifies, and resolves suspicious, fraudulent, illegal, or improper activities; identifies internal control breakdowns; and acts in situations that pose risk. The Fraud Investigator also educates members and peers by sharing knowledge of common fraud schemes and activities that affect our members and our community.

As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:

  • (40%) Analyze and research reported or alerted instances of fraudulent activity to determine course of action to be taken.

  • (30%) Conduct, and provide detailed documentation of, end-to-end investigations and collaborate with legal, compliance, IT security, and law enforcement, when necessary, to resolve case. Collaborate with law enforcement, financial institutions, and peers to pursue recovery of funds and restitution on behalf of Coastal.

  • (15%) Respond to member inquiries and provide education on scams and fraud schemes affecting our community.

  • (10%) Identify areas of high-risk fraud exposure and collaborate with management to make recommendations for adjustments to services to reduce exposure.

Experience:

  • Four years of financial institution experience in a member-facing role requiring fraud awareness; two years of fraud investigation experience preferred

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in business administration, criminal justice, finance, or other related field preferred
  • Fraud Certification (CFE, CFCS, CAMS, or similar designation) preferred

Essential cognitive/physical/social requirements of position:

Must be able to learn and retain information; remain in a stationary position; travel independently; constantly operate a computer; and converse with others on a continual basis.
