Job Title: Card Services Settlement Specialist

Position Location: Raleigh, NC. Hybrid position, must live locally.

Job Summary:

The Card Services Settlement Specialist maintains the accuracy, integrity, and reconciliation of credit and debit card accounting records and reports. This role applies strong analytical, accounting, and detail‑oriented skills to card services general ledger activity while partnering with other departments to support issue resolution, process improvement, and operational accuracy related to card transactions.

As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:

  • (30%) Settlement and General Ledger Reconciliation: Review, verify, and reconcile journal entries related to credit and debit card activities. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of card‑related general ledger accounts by researching variances, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining proper documentation in accordance with accounting standards and internal controls.

  • (25%) Card Services Sub‑Ledger and Clearing Account Maintenance: Maintain Card Services sub‑ledgers, systems, and procedures to ensure adequate controls for functions such as daily settlement, payments in process, non‑clearing adjustments, chargebacks, cash advances, balance consolidations, and trailing payments. Ensure the integrity of transaction workflows between operational systems and the general ledger.

  • (20%) Transaction Workflow Review and Operational Awareness: Develop and maintain a working knowledge of credit and debit card transaction workflows and processes. Review transaction activity for errors or exceptions related to settlement and reconciliation and report findings to appropriate partners for further review. Assist with issue identification by providing operational context within Card Services processes.

  • (15%) Cross‑Departmental Consultation and Customer Support, and Team Back-up: Consult with internal departments to provide information and clarification related to Card Services reconciliations and transaction activity. Serve as a support and backup resource to Card Services team members as needed. Create a positive impression through professional phone and email communications while assisting internal and external customers with inquiries related to card activity. Clearly communicate concepts and findings to partners outside the function in an understandable and professional manner.

  • (10%) Issue Resolution and Continuous Improvement: Investigate and resolve accounting and processing related concerns or discrepancies by following issues through to completion. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues, recommending process enhancements, and contributing to improved accuracy and efficiency within Card Services operations.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience in an operational position working with the general ledger, including preparation of general ledger, account sub-ledgers, and reconciliations
  • Financial institution experience preferred
  • Experience in a position involving Visa rules and regulations preferred

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; related two-year degree preferred
