Job Title: Payment Specialist
Position Location: Raleigh, NC. Hybrid Position, must live locally.
Job Summary:
The Payment Specialist assists members with various electronic payment services including ACH, checks, adjustments, disputes, and wire transfers; and performs member transactions received from other departments in the Credit Union.
As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:
- (30%) ACH Maintenance to comply with Nacha regulations:
- Research and process routine to moderately complex time sensitive ACH transactions, files, and accounting entries
- Maintain working knowledge of digital banking systems to research, process, and resolve online banking exceptions, reports, and related account issues
- Research and resolve issues related to A2A, P2P, and other originated items, including account identification, transaction status, and required follow-up
- Work daily returns report of all ACH originated items. Including research to identify the account share and type and process the return if needed.
- Handle exception items, including returns, notifications of change, payroll allocations and member notifications
- Research and resolve member issues related to ACH payment originations, DNE's and reclamations or any other payment related concerns
- Assist members with ACH disputes by investigating discrepancies, gathering necessary documentation, and resolving issues in a timely manner
- (30%) Check processing to comply with federal regulations:
- Review and process time sensitive in-clearing check file exceptions for members that can be paid
- Manage, verify, and process returned checks to ensure accurate and efficient transactions for the organization and its members
- Maintain accuracy of digital and physical checks to ensure reliability of financial transactions, making sure they are made timely to the recipients
- Assist members with check disputes by investigating discrepancies, gathering necessary documentation, and resolving issues in a timely manner
- Review official check returned items for accuracy and properly distribution of funds
- Process foreign check collection items by preparing proper documentation for check processor
- (25%) Verifying accuracy and security of wire transactions:
- Validate all outgoing domestic and international wires for the credit union to ensure security checks are processed and proper approvals are received
- Complete balancing of all outgoing wires for the credit union and create wire to international wire vendor as needed
- (15%) Providing members with accurate payment transactions:
- Validate and correct mobile deposits that have not met the accuracy thresholds defined
- Utilize multiple systems simultaneously to research and resolve member issue received through calls, secured messages, e-mails and other electronic requests
- Review and correct duplicate web-originated loan payments by communicating with necessary departments and initiating appropriate credit

- One-year financial institution experience in customer service
- Data entry experience
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
