Position Location: Onsite - 1000 St. Albans Dr., Raleigh, NC

Job Summary:

The Chief of Staff serves as a strategic extension of the Chief Executive Officer, driving the coordination, alignment, and execution of enterprise priorities. This role manages strategy, execution, and governance-ensuring that the CEO's agenda and vision are translated into clear direction, coordinated action, and measurable progress across the organization.

Acting with delegated authority in select situations, the Chief of Staff partners closely with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to advance strategic initiatives, resolve cross-functional challenges, and maintain organizational alignment. This role requires strong enterprise perspective, sound judgment, and the ability to influence without direct authority.

This is a single-incumbent, high-impact position responsible for enabling effectiveness at the highest level of the organization.

As a key contributor to the Coastal team, your responsibilities will be:

(35%) Strategic & Organizational Leadership:

  • Drive execution of the CEO's top priorities by establishing clear plans, aligning leadership roles, and ensuring initiatives move forward in a coordinated and timely manner
  • Align work across departments by connecting leaders, clarifying expectations, and addressing gaps to ensure consistent movement toward enterprise goals
  • Monitor and report on progress of key initiatives, identifying delays, risks, and dependencies, and intervening as needed to keep work on track
  • Identify cross-functional challenges and resolve barriers by bringing together the right stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and driving decisions
  • Represent the CEO in meetings and forums, leading discussions, shaping outcomes, and ensuring clear next steps and accountability

(30%) Executive Alignment & CEO Operations:

  • Direct the CEO's time, focus, and engagement toward the highest-value priorities by managing competing demands and ensuring alignment with strategic goals
  • Lead preparation for executive and Board discussions, translating complex information into clear, actionable insights and recommended outcomes
  • Structure and facilitate executive leadership meetings, ensuring discussions are focused, decisions are reached, and follow-up actions are defined and tracked
  • Coordinate across the CEO, ELT, and Board to maintain alignment, ensure consistent messaging, and support effective governance processes
  • Oversee the development of executive materials, ensuring presentations, briefings, and reports are clear, concise, and aligned to leadership priorities
  • Manage the CEO's operating rhythm, including calendar, travel, and meeting cadence, to maximize impact and minimize inefficiencies
  • Ensure disciplined follow-through by tracking commitments, reinforcing accountability, and confirming completion of key decisions and action items

(15%) Decision Support & Planning:

  • Gather and synthesize information for decision-making, converting complex data and input into clear summaries that support timely and informed actions
  • Frame strategic issues and develop options, outlining trade-offs, risks, and organizational impacts to support sound executive decisions
  • Support prioritization of initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and effective allocation of leadership attention and resources
  • Contribute to planning efforts, helping translate broad strategy into actionable priorities and defined outcomes over a 2–4 year horizon

(10%) Culture & Employee Engagement:

  • Advance initiatives that reinforce organizational culture, ensuring alignment with mission, values, and member-focused priorities
  • Support leadership communication efforts, helping deliver clear, consistent messaging that reflects strategic direction and leadership intent
  • Promote alignment across leadership levels, reinforcing shared understanding of priorities, expectations, and organizational direction
  • Model and reinforce organizational values, serving as a visible example in leadership interactions and day-to-day work

(10%) Community & External Relations:

  • Represent the CEO and organization externally, strengthening relationships with community leaders, partners, and industry stakeholders
  • Support community engagement efforts, ensuring executive participation aligns with organizational priorities and community impact goals
