Job Description
Residence Directors are professional full-time staff members responsible for the overall management of the University residence halls. This is a 12-month position, non-traditional and flexible hours with an emphasis on evenings and weekends. This position has a four-year life cycle and will be renewed on an annual basis based on performance and targeted unit goals. Residence Directors serve as a part of professional staff on call rotation. The Residence Director plays an intricate role in fostering the creation of positive residence communities through leadership, supervision, and staff development.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the daily operation of the residence hall.
  • Supervise Resident Assistants and Work Study students.
  • Utilizes student development, leadership, and wellness models to direct the resident assistant staff in their programming efforts.
  • Provides on-going training, development, and supervision of residence hall staff (Assistant Residence Director, Resident Assistants, Community Assistants, Work Study Students).
  • Responds to crises and emergency situations, providing appropriate referrals where necessary.
  • Assist with the on-call and 24-hour duty rotation.
  • Serves as an informal advisor to students regarding personal development and growth.
  • Implements the resident check-in and checkout process of residence halls.
  • Ensures completion and maintenance of required paperwork, e.g., fire/safety reports, room condition reports.
  • Investigates and responds to concerns and complaints of students, parents, University staff members, and with accurate information and good public skills.
  • Perform a daily walk-through of residence halls and/or apartment complex.
  • Upholds and enforces university policies/ procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of all activities and programs.
  • Serve as a Hearing Officer for residential student conduct violations.
  • Serve on various campus committees as needed
  • Submit and follow up on maintenance and facilities requests.
  • Remain current on SACS criteria and ensure compliance in area of control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Residential Life and Education, the Dean of Students and Integrity, the Vice President for Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, and Student Success, or the University President.
  • Must report immediately to the Campus Police Department any crime information, witnessed or ascertained.
  • Must report all Clery Act crimes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • Excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer at least 2 years of experience working in Student Affairs, specifically, Residence Life and Housing.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Occasional need to lift at least 20 pounds;
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time;
  • Frequent need for oral, written and auditory communication;
