The Director of the University College is responsible for hiring, supervising, and training the Academic Advisors. This position will be proficient in the division’s internal policies and procedures and the university’s referral sources to help the Advisors problem solve and troubleshoot student issues. They will be responsible for developing new tools and processes to facilitate the continual quality of the student experience. In addition to partnering with other team leaders and internal teams to create new experiential learning opportunities for first- and second-year students outside of the classroom, the candidate will be responsible for identifying major-specific career preparation opportunities and overseeing the development of adviser websites and major-specific career preparation resources.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and be the direct point of contact for the Advising and Student Success program area (First and Second Year Experience; Accessible Education; Academic Advising, etc.)
- Assist in developing and improving division/college policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and act as administrative coordinator in assigned areas.
- Represent the department at various meetings and on assigned campus committees and outside organizations.
- Act as a resource person for students, faculty, and staff, and provide counsel in problem areas.
- Conduct or oversee special programs or projects as assigned.
- Responsible for assuring the university’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act (including the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities.)

- Establish and build an ongoing connection with all students who have identified themselves to the university as having a disability; review identified students’ schedules and alert faculty members of students’ classroom accommodations; ensure all documented accommodations have been received by identified students; meet regularly with identified students to assess their progress and uncover any concerns.
- Serve as a referral point for disability-related information, services, and resources; provides consultation on policy, concerns, and facilities planning; conducts workshops and training on disability-related topics and how to best meet the needs of those stakeholders with a disability; serves as a clearing house for disability-related complaints; and develops disability-related initiatives. Acts as a liaison with the Wake County Early College Program for students who require accommodations while attending Saint Augustine’s University.
- Make determinations regarding allegations of discrimination and non-compliance under the ADA and other applicable federal and state laws regarding discrimination based on disability.
- Develop key collaborative relationships with campus administrative areas, faculty, and campus and community leaders to enhance the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives, address matters of student concern, and respond to crisis situations should they arise.
- Prepare and present retention updates and reports. Maintain data and contact students in jeopardy of withdrawing or failing school. Provide support and leadership for the coordinated student success platform and develop, coordinate, and facilitate related initiatives to enhance student success. Collaborate with partners within the Division of Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, and Student Success and across the University, as appropriate, to leverage a coordinated student success network to intervene with and assist at-risk/high-priority students. Establish and monitor goals, objectives, and key performance indicators to determine the effectiveness of outreach, opportunities for intervention, and potential improvements to practices. Facilitate improvement to processes and practices.
- Assist with Early Warning Alerts- call, text, and email students who are flagged and help them get connected to their instructor, resources, support, etc. Actively meet with students to assist them in navigating college life and supporting in the resolution of barriers. Build relationships across campus to understand policies and procedures to foster student growth.

- Excellent skills in the use of technology for connecting with prospects remotely such as MS Teams, Zoom or similar platforms.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with a diverse community.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English.
- Ability to understand University procedures and curricular offerings and be able to relate this information to prospective students and families.
- Ability to maintain an effective applicant tracking system.

Required Qualifications |
- Master’s degree in student affairs, student personnel administration, education, educational leadership, public administration, or other related field from an accredited university. (Ph.D. preferred)
- Three years of experience leading and coordinating the work of other staff, preparing and monitoring budgets, and performing program planning and administrative work in the area of student services or student support programs in higher education.
- Strong communication, organization, planning skills, and leadership orientation.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to demonstrate good judgment.
- High energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the work.
- This position requires excellent verbal, organizational and time management skills
- Capacity to learn and provide in-depth information and advice about the University and its programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with students, faculty, staff, University officials, and the general public.
- Demonstrated experience working in a diverse academic environment, including students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender/sexuality, and ethnic backgrounds and identities.
